Cheers to University of Missouri system President Gary Forsee for making a strong public statement against a November ballot initiative that would end affirmative action programs in Missouri.

Forsee's stand is courageous because one of his bosses, Curator David Wasinger, has been acting as attorney for the group trying to get the anti-affirmative action petition on the ballot.

Below is the short AP story on Forsee's remarks and here is a link to an editorial about Wasinger's involvement published by the University of Missouri-St. Louis student newspaper, The Current.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — University of Missouri President Gary Forsee says the system opposes a proposed November ballot initiative designed to end affirmative action in public hiring and college admissions.
Claims that such programs result in reverse discrimination are “absolutely false,” Forsee told participants Monday at a conference on Hispanic issues held at the university’s Columbia campus.
Missouri is one of five states targeted by supporters as part of a broader effort to strike down affirmative action laws. Supporters have until May 4 to collect roughly 150,000 signatures from registered voters across the state.
