Ex-President Zelaya of Honduras, still inside Brazil’s Embassy in Honduras’ capital of Tegucigulpa, has a daughter named Xiomara Hortensia, who at 24 is leading Zelaya’s public relations campaign. “La Pichu”, as her father has called her since she was young, may be the genuine face of Manuel Zelaya’s bid for power.

“La Pichu” has been able to keep her father’s message active in the media. She has been able to leave Brazil’s Embassy and return a few times.

Yesterday, the interim government lifted the emergency rules that shut down some media outlets and prevented civil gatherings. The details of the present rules for protest are unclear, but it appears that Honduras’ interim leader, Roberto Micheletti is taking steps to negotiate with Zelaya and his followers. Negotiating makes sense for the people but practically speaking as well for Honduras’ business leaders. With sanctions, lean times have become leaner very quickly. It seems logical that the business leaders within and outside the country are the real power brokers. Read more here

Honduras’ constitution prevents Manuel Zelaya from running for a second term. He wants that changed, but the new elections are next month. What if Manuel’s daughter appeared on the ballot for the November 29th run off?
