By Juanell Garrett, Kansas City Star Midwest Voices panelist 2008
The paid progenitors of political punditry have told you about President Obama’s upcoming speech on Sept. 9 but have, thus far, not seen fit to mention his speech on Sept. 8.
On that day at noon (Eastern time), Obama will address Pre-K through 12th grade students (what Rush Limbaugh lovingly refers to as “skulls full of mush”) in the nation’s public classrooms.
If you have children who are potential members of that captive audience, check out the information available at the Department of Education website. I’ve provided the cached information here. (Note that the time has changed since this was originally posted.)
The presentation will be streamed live at www.whitehouse.gov/live/. You might want to watch it yourself so you’ll be prepared to deprogram your children at home if necessary.

It Will Be Interesting to See KCMO Response...
Anyone know this underperforming/unaccredited district's plan on the big 0's, the messiah's, speech?
If I could place a wager, it would be full speed ahead with the big 0....
What if Bush had wanted to speak to the students?
If Bush had said he was going to address school children and that teachers were to explain that this work is “critical to…our social progress” and that it is important to listen to “the President and other elected officials.” I think the media would have come unglued.
I went to the website and looked at the materials the teachers were given. It gave me chills. I know my history; I’ve read and studied Nazi Germany. I suggest you look at this website.

This announcement comes two weeks after a secret meeting between the Whitehouse and National endowment for the Arts who called together artists, actors, musicians to develop media that emphasized Obama’s agenda. Again I know my history. I can not believe this is happening in USA.
See this website.

and hear the recorded meeting:

This may also explain why Glenn Beck has been targeted by this administration.
They won't remember a thing.
I went to school at a time when the unwritten rule was the same as the ad for Las Vegas. "What happens in school, stays in school". I'm sure I must have been exposed to some kind of indoctrination when I was a lad, but it went in one ear and out the other. I'm sure that children of today are no more receptive to instructions from on high than I was.
Strangely enough, I still remember when "Busy Bear" came to my elementary school and presented the basic rules of safety. "STOP, LOOK, and LISTEN" is etched into my memory cells forever, but I've forgotten all the others. I've always planned to follow that instruction, and make "Busy Bear" proud, if I ever drove up to an unguarded railroad crossing, but I never had the opportunity. There's always been a gate of some kind.
I agree with Lezzle?
A 15 minute address to kids aged 5-18 will 'indoctrinate' them to blindly support Obabma?
Be careful conservatives, the independants that you rightfully gained via the health care debate you may lose if you push this paranoia too far.
Agenda?
The only agenda a pre-K child is interested in pushing would be more cartoons on TV....
If the President was really interested in getting his message across to kids, he'd have Miley Cyrus or the Jonas Brothers give the talk...
Questions like these are what is wrong.
"How can you personally help President Obama? Write this down and we will see later if you did help".
Nah, nothin' to it, totally innocent....
Those questions are from the teachers guides. THAT is what is wrong with it. This isn't 'stay in school', 'study hard', or anything of the sort. It is indoctrination and POLITICAL. It does not belong in the classroom.
In Utah they've conned schools showing videos supporting BO made by the Hollywood set, where celebrities actually pledge to SERVE Obama, not to serve the country or support Obama, but to personally SERVE Obama. That is WRONG.
If the president wants to
If the president wants to address school age children about the advantages of staying in school, continuing with education, staying away from drugs and alchol, and abstaining from sexual practises that result in unwanted pregnancy then go for it.
If he wants to persuade kids to assist him in pushing his agenda he is wrong. No citizen owes any politician any allegiance, our allegiance is to the nation and constitution. Hinting to children otherwise is both dangerous and precarious to the health and welfare of the nation.
When the lesson plan following the speech includes
"What do you think President Obama wants you to do?"
"How can you personally help President Obama? Write this down and we will see later if you did help".
Nah, nothin' to it, totally innocent....
Civics Lessons
Sounds harmless. Cynics, however, will scrutinize subliminal messages and scrub his text for indoctrinating nuances and propaganda in the formation of the Obama Youth Corps.
I remember when we had presidents' photos on the wall of our classrooms - often near the American flag to which we would turn, hold our hands over our hearts and recite our Pledge of Allegiance. What's the big deal? "Stay in School!" "Get an Education!" "Listen to your Teacher!" If the PRESIDENT is supporting parents, teachers, communities with value-based messages of encouragement, what's the problem?
