Cheers to U.S. Rep. Barney Frank for not kowtowing to loud-mouthed critics at his town hall Tuesday night.
Frank's appearance was marred by angry and unruly questioners. But the Massachusetts Democrat gave as good as he got on several occasions.
-- One woman ignorantly compared President Barack Obama's policies to those of Germany under Adolf Hitler.
Frank's comeback: "On what planet do you spend most of your time?"
-- At another point, Frank responded to a series of outbursts by saying, "Do you really think that advances your argument? I mean, I thought you were thoughtful people here to have a conversation."
No, actually, too many of them weren't.
They thought they had the right to yell and try to intimidate Frank as well as others who might support his viewpoints.
It's apparently what passes for civilized conversation during the great health care debate of 2009.

Ironic isn't it that Barney Frank now wants a civilized discussion. Given that his anti war, environmental, and gay rights constituency conducts some of the loudest, in your face, demonizing protests of any groups in the US. I do not recall these groups as being compromising in any fashion. Poetic justice in my view.

Instead please answer some of the key claims that I have a problem with:
1. Reduced cost. Please show me how medicare and medicade reduced cost. It appears they increased it overall by artificially lowering payment for service while increasing reporting requirements.
2. Improved service with no rationing. A relatively fixed set of resouces that will now need to support a 15% increase in need and a decrease in the amount recieved for the service.
Let's start there and move on to the even more intrusive and costly elements.

Frank has already publically stated that he is in favor of fully Socialized Medicine and thinks a 'public plan' is the way to force it on the American people against their will.

Never has there been a greater misdirection of intellectual weight and wit in congress than Barney's pathetic public presentations over the past 27 years.
His most consistently revealed trait is one that he proudly presents and (unfortunately)shares with the POTUS.....an abject and continued refusal to ever acknowledge a single one of his many ridiculous policy mistakes.
It is continually reassuring to know that we have Barney in place at the helm of the House Financial Services Committee. He's making certain that ACORN is adequately funded and that the policies of Fannie and Freddie continue.
Barney, ever the witty one, is the only congressman to date who has personally been substantively more rude than his blustery constituency.......He's had so much more experience than they have.
My sister is one of his constituents and acknowledges that he keeps her vote primarily because of his wit...so sad.

Then Yael, please contribute and explain how this plan you support will be paid for in full. I agree the shouting isn't appropriate and a lot of times is far off what the debate should be - funding this plan.
I still haven't heard a workable model for providing more health care to people who aren't going to pay for it, without increasing the cost to those of us who already do pay for our own health care. I have yet to hear how we are going to reduce health care costs when more people start demanding and receiving services. I have yet to understand how the government is going to cut costs, but not be involved saying what treatments I can and can't get under their plan.
I'm not against health care reform because I believe the lies and wild assertions. I'm against governmenet health care reform because I don't believe we've solved the most basic issues in terms of costs and funding.

Barney Frank has said he doesn't care what the voters of his ditrict think, he is going to vote the way he wants. I guess Yael doesn't like the idea of representative Democracy when it interfears with his socialist views. Frank is an arrogant ass, and a perfect example of what is wrong with Washington.
