By The Kansas City Star Editorial Board
If dreaming up future ideas for this piece of the page sounds good, consider this offer.
Twice a month, the editorial board is joined by six reader advisers to brainstorm future editorials. If opinions on local, national and international topics are your passion, and you are able to escape your workplace for two hours a month, you may be just the person for this volunteer post.
Apply to join the fifth annual Editorial Board reader advisory panel. The post comes with added opportunities: We hope every panelist will augment the twice monthly meetings by frequently contributing individual opinions to the Midwest Voices blog, voices.kansascity.com.
We seek individuals from varied backgrounds, with opinions that differ from our own and expertise in fields outside journalism. The goal is simple: These pages benefit from more minds/insights/opinions around the table.
To apply, send us a brief bio with your home and work address, describe your political persuasion, list five editorial ideas (summaries only) you’d like to see in print and email it to , with Reader Adviser Applicant in the subject line.
Or send applications by mail to Editorial Page, The Kansas City Star, 1729 Grand Blvd., Kansas City, MO. 64108. (To bring new voices to the table, we decline to consider elected or appointed public officials or relatives of Star employees.)
Deadline for applicants is July 22. We’ll announce the new panel in August. Spread the word.

Seeing debra and apop make mindless posts attacking conservative and making claims about the makeup of the city stay. Wow I wonder what was said to get deleted. The numbers based on votes and polls don't back up the moderate left claim. And if what you said was true then would the star be doing better?
The problem for republicans is that they ones in office are not conservative. I listen to people who call Bush a conservative, what a joke. Why? Because of gay marriage and abortion? What's the big o doing for that? Bush passed dem bills for education and medicare, and the tax cuts (that led to record revenue for the govt) were not accompanied with needed cuts. McCain was even weaker than Bush.
As the country continues it's down spiral more people will see that someone who lives in DC does not need to be involved in the daily lives of people in KC. Let's get back to the foundation, the Constitution.
So, twas . . .
Are you picking up the gauntlet? You started your letter? Dear Editorial Board: . . .
The conservative mindset is not what the majority embraces
That's the bottom line. If a majority of Americans were conservatives, most of our newspapers would be as well. But the majority in the US are moderates so our newspapers and some other media try to balance their coverage. And they aren't always successful.
What the conservative minority is is loud and whiney. So they are great at making noise and complaining they are persecuted when in reality they probably have more media voices than they should be entitled to.
Just watch how The Star handles this reader adviser selection. If half are conservative that would not reflect the metro area. But since conservatives are such expert whiners, The Star will probably cave and give them more representation than they are entitled to.
Back to the original column -
I nominate Sonofrogue. He's got the tenacity to make a good reader advisor.
Wouldn't it be funny to be a fly-on-the-wall for their first meeting?
The Star's a little late
Whether they want to admit it or not, I think allowing gay couples to place an ad in the weddings section was a direct result of bad PR. Sometimes the Star can be shamed into doing the right thing--but you still should be allowed to criticize that decision on this blog. I would rather see more gay couples than the 1/4 page dissertation (ad revenue) that I've seen the past couple of weeks. Details down to the menu on the rehearsal dinner. Good grief.
So does my opinion here get me points for being a MV contributor? I bet not.
To reader GrinchforPrez
Disposal of fish guts in newspaper is unwise in any case. Also, a "charcoal chimney" is prone to catch fire. Finally, is there some reason for which you're proud to be heterosexual?
Lezzle's (and my response) already got deleted
The Star doesn't want to be criticized over their choices.
Thanks, Lezzle, for your warning on those Star stories
For pointing out those politically correct love stories were festering in the Star. I was going to buy the Sunday edition today for sale ads (odd, somehow stores had a lot of them on hand when I went out this morning), but your timely warning saved me $2. I decided instead to check sale ads online - the rest I was going to wrap fish guts in and for use in charcoal chimneys.
heh
It's not enough that Fox News and Free Republic hold my point of view, the Star has to hold it also.

spot on.
The Star doesn't want diversity
If the Star wanted conservative opinion there would be more on their Board. The deck is clearly stacked against any conservative beliefs--so no, there isn't any point in applying. And the MV contributors certainly never got any support on this board when they were being attacked.
So would the Star select someone who would spend their time criticizing their own paper and writers? How about linking to stories on blogs that the Star isn't covering? How about covering the DUI arrest of the publisher's wife who happened to have a sweetheart deal in order to continue writing her appalling and pathetic column? Would that get me any points if I applied? Somehow I doubt it.
There is a reason why the paper is smaller and the price is going up and the web site is a mess. Would having that opinion get me a coveted spot on the left navigation pane? No, I don't think so.
