Gotta hand it to Sarah Palin.

Fresh evidence surfaced this week that she has staying power -- the ability to shine brightly in the public eye despite her failed vice presidential campaign of 2008.

She's doing it with some old-fashioned publicity tricks:

-- Get sympathetic press.

There's Sarah Palin, posing for the latest issue of Runner's World. And for good reason: Palin can actually run (or at least jog fast) because she has finished a marathon in under 4 hours, or around 9-minute-a-mile pace.

-- Stand back when necessary.

On Wednesday, the media were full of the latest mud on the feud between aides of Palin and presidential candidate John McCain, a tired story from last fall. Palin gets ripped up by a few of the aides; while her aides return fire. The upshot for the public: Who cares about such personality battles among the lesser lights of a presidential campaign?

-- Attack when necessary.

That's why Palin got so much positive press when she accurately accused comedian David Letterman of making vulgar fun of one of her daughters.

And she snuck in a short rip of Sen. John Kerry, who also had joked about the fact that the wrong Republican governor (Mark Sanford) might have gone missing, implying it should have been Palin instead.

Summed up, Palin will stay in the public spotlight as long as she's able to keep the media interested in what she says and does.

Not a bad idea, of course, for someone with designs on being a top GOP's presidential contender in 2012.
