Dear Larry,
I've written some few lines, and I do not mind to write my name if you want to publish my article. Please inform me if you publish it or not.
This is my writings:
Master of Rings
I do not know if you have ever watched "The Lord of the Rings" or not? If you have watched it, I should say this kind of rings really exists. We have such rings in Iran. Masters of power hide themselves from the public view and they impose without responsibilities to their decisions. Indeed who have the power in Iran? This is what we, Iranians, do not know exactly! Because powerful agents are hidden behind the religion. And they do not need to people.
In USA, government is dependent to people, businesses, universities. Because it should tax them for its expenses and its governance. But in Iran, People need the government. The government pay dole to people for deficient industries, weak universities and fake civilization. And this is the results of such structure: continuous revolutions, social defectives, long wars and colonialism by global powers.
Indeed oil, blood and mysteries are irresolvable parts of the last century's history in Iran. The crown or turban is not the problem; the problem is how to treat with none development structures which powered by oil and religion?
Best Regards,
Bashir

Note from Larry:
I believe that in his last sentence, Bashir means:
The crown or turban is not the problem; the problem is how to develop without using development structures which are powered by oil and religion?

we'll see
I always take the rabid right-wing website "Realclearpolitics.com" with a grain of salt. What I've heard more than anything is a call for a new election for president in Iran, which falls far short of overthrowing the theocracy. However, insofar as the theocracy continues to resist calls for a re-vote, then it may be setting itself up to be overthrown. We'll see.
It's always some other country that has to be addressed ...
... or we're always fighting the wrong war. North Korea is where it's at now (with nuclear weapons) because of past failures to deal with them BEFORE they got the nukes. Iran is now pre-nuclear, the only difference is that they have an ally of the U.S. (Israel, of course) in their sights AS A STATED GOAL by their current president. To think we can afford to simply bury our heads in the sand, a la North Korea, is to simply repeat our past mistakes and create an even more unstable Middle East.
Here's the current Charles Krauthammer column on this - he pulls it together a lot better than I can - this was written yesterday, before Obama was shamed by the overwhelming bipartisan support of the Iran resolution in Congress. Yet still all he does is condemn the violence and not the obvious vote-rigging, and does not directly support the protestors ...
"White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the resolution is consistent with Obama's message condemning the violence in Iran. At the same time, he said the U.S. would not become a political football in a debate happening in Iran." from a Fox News article
Krauthammer's column:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/06/19/obama_clueless_on_iran.html
Excerpts:
"Moreover, this incipient revolution is no longer about the election. Obama totally misses the point. The election allowed the political space and provided the spark for the eruption of anti-regime fervor that has been simmering for years and awaiting its moment. But people aren't dying in the street because they want a recount of hanging chads in suburban Isfahan. They want to bring down the tyrannical, misogynist, corrupt theocracy that has imposed itself with the very baton-wielding goons that today attack the demonstrators.
This started out about election fraud. But like all revolutions, it has far outgrown its origins. What's at stake now is the very legitimacy of this regime -- and the future of the entire Middle East."
I wonder what more could
I wonder what more could Obama do other than what he said today? Why get involved in this situation more than he needs too? I am more concerned about our nation's problems than what happens in the Middle East. What about jobs here? How about getting out of the recession? How about stability in the market? No, Iran is a low priotity on my list and I think the President is smart by not getting involved any more than he has too.
What he needs to be concerned about internationally, however, is N. Korea. THEY are acting all sorts of stupid right now. We have our eye on them and that is good. Although I say turn the entire country into a desert waste, but that is another story (sarcasm for those of you wanting to jump the 'you're so hawkish' gun.)
Why the big 0, the messiah, is Doing NOTHING in Iran

Curious About “Real Hope”
Kenm, I would be curious about how you think Obama can “bring real hope and change to the people of Iran.” You don’t need to be specific, just a general idea—something beyond tough talk. I don’t suppose Obama will be interested since he apparently wants to keep “the ruling tyrants in power and maintain the status quo;” but I’d be interested.
What do you expect him to do?
He's condemned violence, but if he comes out with all his rhetorical guns blazing, all the ruling regime is going to do is tie the opposition to the "Great Satan," America.
It seems to me that he's taking a pretty sensible approach, despite the protests of the right-wing commenters.
