Get used to the sound of it. Governor Sam Brownback.
Ron Thornburgh, the well-liked but underfunded Kansas secretary of state, announced today he was bailing out of a GOP primary. PrimeBuzz has the breaking news.
Chris Steineger, the Democratic senator from Wyandotte County, is interested in challenging Brownback. But when Steineger nominated himself to challenge Anthony Hensley for Senate minority leader at the start of the last session, none of his colleagues would second the nomination. Not a good sign.
At this point, it looks like Brownback can start measuring the drapes in the governor's office. And that will mean big changes in the state of Kansas.

What about Bill Kurtis, Barb?
There have been abundant rumblings that Bill Kurtis, legendary Chicago news anchor and Independence, Kansas native, is seriously considering running for governor as a democrat.
Kurtis, who owns 2 businesses based in Kansas, also owns a 10,000 acre farm/ranch in SE Kansas which would make him eligible to run. Kurtis has been a very well connected member of Chicago's social scene for over thirty years.
His candidacy would present an intrigueing campaign dichotomy and dialogue for the uber con, Brownback.
Someone mentioned Robin Carnahan
I have a problem with her. She is doing radio ads (a bunch of them) regarding investment fraud and what she is doing about it. Please someone tell me why the Attorney General isn't the one responsible for that. Is she just getting her name out there as a "good guy" (she states her name three times) because she just happens to be running for U.S. Senate? And who do you think is picking up the tab for her getting her name out there?
Some might say that Lynn Jenkins did the same thing - but she was the State Treasurer trying to get people into the Kansas College Savings fund. Anyway, I thought the AG was the state's law enforcer.
Not to Defend Robin Carnahan, But . . .

In this case, the Missouri Secretary of State does enforce "Blue Sky" securities laws, which are basically State securities registration laws (I knew this because I used to have a buddy who was an attorney in this division of the MOSecState's office). The MOSecState's web site says: "The enforcement unit of the Securities Division of the Secretary of State receives and investigates complaints from Missouri investors. These investigations involve alleged violations of the registration and antifraud provisions of the securities law. Each year the staff receives more than 300 complaints from investors." See http://www.sos.mo.gov/securities/enforcement.asp
Sure can't defend her making commercials to promote herself, though.
Thanks, Faceless -
She's never advertised before. I wonder if timing is involved.
Just curious?
Is it a bad thing if Robin Carnahan took a short trip to DC to look for apartments? I mean, the endorsement editorial I'm sure has already been written--is that a bad thing, too?
What exactly makes this "breaking news"?
Barb, are you a jounalist or a propaganda machine for the dems?
Get use to the sound of it, Gov. Sam Brownback. Barb, if you were a real journalist instead of a shill for the dems, your comment wouldn't be so offensive to people like myself that occasionally read this drivel for entertainment value.
You aren't an editorialist as much as an activist for the extreme left.
