John Edwards won't ever be president of the United States. That's the best news Americans will hear for a long time about the former Democratic senator from North Carolina.

Because all of the rest of the news about Edwards has been bad lately, continuing with what happened Sunday.

Edwards conceded federal investigators are looking into whether he misspent his campaign funds. That could result in federal charges against him.

Some of the money may have paid for some activities involving the woman with whom he had an extramarital affair, Rielle Hunter.

Really, what else could go wrong for the one-time Democratic boy wonder who ran for vice president in 2004 on the Democratic ticket with John Kerry?

-- He had to pull out of his second presidential race last year when he found no traction in the polls.

-- His affair soon after that became front-page news.

-- His wife's cancer returned -- making Edwards look like even more of a heel.

-- And, last month, his wife Elizabeth announced she will be writing a book, including her take on Edwards' affair.

Should be some must-reading for anyone wishing the worse for a one-time Democratic genius.
