Todd TiahrtBy Yael T. Abouhalkah, Kansas City Star Editorial Page columnist
U.S. Rep. Todd Tiahrt of Kansas is a feisty and ardent conservative. But he said something Tuesday that might irritate Rush Limbaugh's ditto-head followers.
Tiahrt was asked by a Kansas City Star Editorial Board member whether Limbaugh was now the de facto leader of the GOP.
"No, no, he's just an entertainer," Tiahrt said.
Whoops.
Remember Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele? He got in trouble earlier this year for saying, "Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh's whole thing is entertainment. Yes, it is incendiary. Yes, it is ugly."
Steele quickly apologized after being ripped by Limbaugh.
"There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership," Steele meekly said.
And don't forget Phil Gingrey, a Georgia Republican, who also had to apologize for comments that made it appear he was criticizing Limbaugh.
Tiahrt better be careful. He's running to replace fellow Republican Sam Brownback as one of Kansas' two senators in 2010.
And one of his GOP challengers will be Jerry Moran, another member of Congress from Kansas.

Conservative don't like him either.....
“Nature abhors a vacuum, and there is no vacuum in nature as empty as the leadership of the Republican Party today.”
Conservative columnist Richard Viguerie
“A man who is aggressive and bombastic, cutting and sarcastic, who dismisses the concerned citizens in network news focus groups as ‘losers.’ With his private plane and his cigars, his history of drug dependency and his personal bulk, not to mention his tangled marital history, Rush is a walking stereotype of self-indulgence – exactly the image that Barack Obama most wants to affix to our philosophy and our party.”
David Frum, editor of NewMajority.com
Thanks Ruch Limba..ba for making sheeple out of the poor folx who loose their jobs and have nothing better to do but sit around and get pumped up angry with cursory tragedian political rhetoric. A cynical electorate is the mission of the Blue Sky Tribe.

Kansas republicans
Running for senate in 2010? That's a long time from now. Are we sure the republican party will still be around? (heh heh, JK!)
One thing I've noticed now that I've become a fan of MS-NBC, Olbermann and Maddow. I'm happy to see that the white wing doesn't have a stranglehold on wadio! It looks like some of us who want the country to survive might also listen to progressive ideas.
That's the change we voted for. And so now, we're watching the GOP just become a bunch of 'entertainers'! Which is good. It's entertaining to watch them try so hard not to accept that they lost the election. And for good reason.
Like this guy who feels the need to distance himself from el Rushbo... reason would dictate that they should distance themselves from the GOP and it's capitalists.
Interesting
Going for the shock value again, Yael.
Would love to see a transcript of the whole interview. I wonder if Todd thought that out of the hour or so he spent with the KC Star Editorial Board discussing, you would think, important issues of Kansans, why Yael found this little tidbit to be blog worthy.
Did you ask him his opinion of Sarah Palin and are saving that for today's headline? Can't wait.
Sure hope Jerry Moran preps better for his meeting.
Rep. Tiahrt
In the office pool I have "12noon Thursday" as the exact moment the Congressman apologies to Rush. It is standard operating procedure for all those Republicans who criticize or belittle Rush to offer heartfelt apologies within 48 hours of any offense.
WHHHHHHHHAT?
You meant the guy on the radio who has never run for nor held public office or ever claimed he was a journalist is an entertainer?
I dont believe it...next you will tell me that Steven Colbert is not a serious newsman.
Why is this news. At what point will liberals and the media figure out you won't take down Rush and badmouthing him only makes him stronger. Rush is a political version of Howard Stern. Certain groups do not like him because they do not like his brand of humor so they tried to shut him down which only made him stronger.
If republicans are so irrellevant then why do the democrats work so hard to bash them? Why does Olbermann ("entertainer") still talk about nothing but republicans.
Democrats claim their mandate yet still blame republicans for their failures.
Move on...
yeah, him
You meant the guy on the radio who has never run for nor held public office or ever claimed he was a journalist is an entertainer?
the guy who headlined the CPAC conference last month, and who GOP leader Michael Steele bent over backwards to avoid besmirching.
We all find it kind of mind-boggling, too.

Yes...

Because celebrities, actors, musicians, sports stars, etc have NEVER EVER spoke at Democrat events or conferences and espouse democrat ideas or beliefs...nope, never :)
And democrats have never bent over backwards to accomdate and not offend certain groups or individuals that are staunch supporters of their ideas.
The fact is Limbaugh (who believe it or not I have probably listened to less than an hour my entire lifetime..Hannity, O'Reilly, etc all get on my nerves beyond belief) is a powerful man. In the old days it was dont pick a fight with those who buy ink by the barrel. Well in his case don't pick fights with those who have a captive audience of 20 million people each week listening to every word he says. AS A SIDE NOTE...a good portion of conservative radio's audience is actually those who strongly disagree with it. At one time Rush said the polls of his audience showed something nearing 50% of the audience being those who hate him and they tend to listen to more of the show as well.
Michael Steele made a bad move. He cut himself off at the knees with that move. He had a good name and was a star in the party and is now seen as a gutless man with no real leadership abilities.
The fact is the republican party needs to return to it's conservative roots. And by conservative I don't mean hardcore rightwing, ultra religious nuts who want to limit what you can see, do and watch because of God. Who one minute claim they want government out of their lives yet want the government to censor tv, radio and movies and ban marriage of people.
i MEAN conservative as the party that is for abolishing large parts of the federal government bureacracy and managing the tax payers money is a fiscally sound manner at the same time use the power and might of the US Military is a responsible and useful way. A track Republicans have veered off of for a good 10 years or more now.
Bush had his upsides...and of course downsides. But his fiscal policies and use of the military did more to damage his party than anything else. All parties, all people are responsible for this economy. Republicans in congress who expanded the size of the government to new levels only outmatched by the new democrat congress/president. And democrats are responsible for being against regulation of wall street just as much as republcians and for forcing lenders to loan money to those who had no business getting home loans all in the name of racism.
Here is a scary fact...40% of all the foreclosers in the State of California...never had ONE payment made on the loan. 40% of the people took a loan they had not intention or means to every pay!
That is the fault of everyone and the republicans better get back on track and get their ducks in a row before it is too late to ever turn around.
The point, Rocky
is how firmly the Republican leaders' lips seem to be attached to Rush's butt. ;-)
the best ever...
I can't stop laughing!!! I hope elrushbo doesn't pass the gaszzz, oops that's what he saves for his shows!!!

editorial leadership
Great point, Twas, however this newspaper does not manifest any semblance of editorial vision here. This blog for example, allows a few columnists to dabble and doodle over the course of the day. While this site allows for great exchange and expression, the atmosphere has all the value of Hyde Park in London. Grab a soapbox, a megaphone and start talking. Most of these columnists would do us a better service by posting links to Reuters, WSJ, and the New York Times.

Yael - are you afraid to post on DHS ' "Right-Wing Extremist"?
Napolitano says it's not politically-based. The liberals really know how to treat returning soldiers - put out the alarms!
All of this reminds me of Waco. And where is the outrage from our free and independent press on all of this? Why isn't the Star Editorial Board blasting Napolitano? This is pure stereotyping and baseless, and it looks a lot like trying to shut up the opposition. LIBERALS AND THEIR BIG GOVERNMENT - YOU MUST BE PROUD!
