Don't envy President Barack Obama as he tries to keep VP Joe Biden's lips zipped.
At a swearing-in ceremony Wednesday for senior White House staff members, Biden joked about Chief Justice John Roberts' flubbing of the inaugural oath on Wednesday.
A tight-lipped Obama looked on as Biden made his comments, which drew a few oohs and ahhs from the crowd of staff.
Obama didn't smile at Biden's remarks. He even moved to push Biden to get to the podium and get on with the task at hand.

I'm encouraged by Obama's actions Wednesday. They indicate he wants to be serious when necessary, and not make jokes at others' expenses when unnecessary.

Here's a suggestion for Obama. Barry, the next time, probable later today, that Biden puts his foot in his mouth, leave it there.

The election is over Joe. You won. Move on. don't you remember, the Supreme Court does not have to run for office. Anyone who thinks that judges don't have egos and don't let them influence their judicial decisions has not known very many judges. It is not smart to blast someone whose vote you might get on a marginal issue. If Joe ever gets to be President, Obama's choice of him will have been the worst thing he ever did.

it was probably 50% it is not proper to EVER opening critique the Supreme Court (it is a long standing tradition, you can talk about their decisions but not the actual justices) and 50% the fact that Obama flubbed it as much as Roberts did.
It was nerves, plain and simple. Obama jumped the gun and tried to start speaking before the Chief Justice finished which I think flubbed the Justice. Then the Justice flubbed the next line which in turn messed up the President.
It is a nerve racking situation...I know both had to feel embarassed.

Saw it, and it looked like it was the other way around, but I thought they both handled it in stride. Both are affable, intelligent leaders.
"I Barack Hussein Obama," began Roberts.
"I Barack," said Obama, and before he could continue, Roberts said, "do solemnly swear."
Obama: "I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear"
Roberts: "That I will execute the office of president to the United States faithfully...
Obama: "that I will execute..."
Roberts: "faithfully execute the office of president of the United States..."
Obama: "The office of president of the United States faithfully..."
At that point, Roberts got back on course, leading as Obama followed with "and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
"So help you God?" asked Roberts.
"So help me God."
Good precedent by the President.
I'm glad he set the tone on this one.
