Sarah Palin won't become a U.S. Senator, at least in the next few months.
Her shot at joining the Senate has disappeared now that Republican Ted Stevens has been declared the loser in Alaska's Senate race.
Stevens, convicted recently on federal corruption charges, lost to Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich.
Just days ago, Palin's GOP acolytes were hoping that Stevens would beat Begich -- but then be ousted from Congress by his GOP colleagues. Indeed, Senate Republicans had been poised Tuesday to do just that. They decided to wait for the final vote totals to roll in from Alaska.
If Stevens had been elected and then expelled from the Senate, Palin would have had the opportunity to be elected to move into Stevens' seat.
But Begich took matters into his own hand by defeating Stevens.
Begich's victory spared Alaskans -- and the nation -- the sight of Palin sitting in the U.S. Senate.

Umm...no. The people of Alaska took matters into their own hands by defeating Ted Stevens, convicted felon.
What about reading?
Perhaps commenters Peskime and Nukman need to pay more attention... Mr. Abouhalkah’s entire article is only 152 words, but if they had bothered to read more closely, they would have discovered that Mr. Abouhalkah had actually said, “Palin would have had the opportunity to be elected to move into Stevens' seat.”
Yael, you're wrong
Palin could not have "moved" into Senator Steven's senatorial seat.
Unlike most states, Alaska does not allow its governor to appoint senator replacements, they would have to hold a special election.
I surmise that Ms Palin will sail off into the political sunset.
God's speed.

That does not include 2008 figures, which should be even higher.
Shocking and appalling.

Re "Paying More"
You're right, he didn't fill in all the blanks. Was it necessary? Not really. The operative word was "opportunity."
Get a Clue
Why would Palin want to be a senator? Presidents tend to come from the state houses not the senate. This election year was the exception to every rule and we will see how this turns out.
If Palin has desires to be president governing a successful state is a better resume enhancer that being a senator.
Abouhalkah needs to pay more
Abouhalkah needs to pay more attention to the news. Palin said that if Stevens won and was expelled, he would be replaced by a special election not by appointment.
