Log this in the too good not to share category. This article by Peter Hawkins dated Nov. 7 is from The Sydney Morning Herald in Australia:
The Republican party's post-election downward spiral continues with aides of John McCain saying that Sarah Palin did not know Africa was a continent.
Fox News anchor Carl Cameron claims McCain's aides told him Palin did not understand Africa was a continent, not a country, and that she also didn't know what countries were in the North American Free Trade Agreement [NAFTA].
Cameron says the source told him that Palin had no idea the US, Canada and Mexico were in NAFTA.
"I wish I could have told you more at the time but all of it was put off the record until after the election," Cameron said.
"There was great concern in the McCain campaign that Sarah Palin lacks the degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate, a vice-president, and a heartbeat away from the presidency.
"We're told by folks that she didn't know what countries were in NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement, that being Canada, the US, and Mexico.
"We're told she didn't understand that Africa was a continent rather than a country just in itself - a whole host of questions that caused serious problems about her knowledgeability.
"She got very angry at staff, thought that she was mishandled, was particularly angry about the way the Katie Couric interview went.
"She didn't accept preparation for that interview and the aides say that that was part of the problem. And there were times that she was hard to control emotionally - there's talk of temper tantrums at bad news clippings."
The Daily Mail reports that McCain's aides also said that she spent "thousands more" than the reported $US150,000 on clothes during the campaign, much to the shock of the donor that footed the bill.
Amazing.

It's the republicans (the people who know her the best) that called her the wasilla hillbilly, the diva etc. They are the ones that are calling her appallingly ignorant. Even a FOX reporter broadcasted that report. You believe FOX don't you? Or are you merely smitten?

Reagan aspired to smaller government and low taxes but even he couldn't make it happen. His '86 tax increase was the largest single increase in history and it damaged the commercial real estate market for years. Behind it all he didn't really believe in small government, he just wanted in bigger in different ways and that's the real debate.
I think it's mutually exclusive to have small government/low tax and at the same time a large industrialized nation and world power, that's the dilemma Reagan faced and he chose the latter. Republican administrations since then have deluded themselves that they can spend and spend and never pay the bill. That's a discussion we need to have now. We all believe that governmanet should provide some things i.e highways, defense, schools, public safety, etc. Most American are shifting toward public health because it has reached the point that none of us, save super rich, can survive a significant illness. A two or three day stay in the hospital can cost more than most people make in a year, a major operation and recuperation can cost more than people make in a lifetime. So, should we provide for ourselves and each other collectively? Really, it's nothing more than "group" health insurance on a national scale. We need to have this debate and decide how we as a nation want to proceed.
The looney Left is on the march!
They are feeling their oats blaming the Republicans for the economic mess they created by ceasing all oil well drilling and shooting gasoline costs to the moon in the name of "global warming". Gag me with a carbon credit.
OH and lets not forget ACORN and fellow travelers crippling the mortgage business with subprime loans created by them in Congress and in Fannie and Freddie.
Now because they are scared to death of Governor Palin they are attempting to trash her. Those leftist loonies don't realize the back lash will only boost her clout, so please keep it up Louie the Whiner. Keep on repeating rumor. You are such a "quality" journalist.
OK - but this is not fiction
If you want to hear some real world solutions to big government, go to this website and listen (I suggest the audio-only) to a man that understood capitalism and what big government does to it.

We ALL work hard, we all "earn" our living. You don't work any harder than the guy that mows your lawn or the waitress that serves your food. It's a conceit to think that you haven't through luck or the grace of god been at least a little fortunate. And if you didn't know already, Ayn Rand was fiction.John Gault was make believe. Go read some economics. Look at the results of years of Randian trickle down free market economics. It's a failed philosophy.

I bet you will whine about what he does before I do... I will get shielded, you will be swept away with the high unemployment and runaway inflation he causes, or perhaps it will be deflation... either one I don't want to hear you "whine" about it!!!!
I've read Ayn Rand
and though her literary histrionics are entertaining and even a little thought-provoking, it is a little scary that so many seem to see her as relevant to modern-day America.
More relevant are the words of another American icon:
"At many stages in the advance of humanity, this conflict between the men who possess more than they have earned and the men who have earned more than they possess is the central condition of progress. In our day it appears as the struggle of freemen to gain and hold the right of self-government as against the special interests, who twist the methods of free government into machinery for defeating the popular will. At every stage, and under all circumstances, the essence of the struggle is to equalize opportunity, destroy privilege, and give to the life and citizenship of every individual the highest possible value both to himself and to the commonwealth......
"No man should receive a dollar unless that dollar has been fairly earned. Every dollar received should represent a dollar's worth of service rendered - not gambling in stocks, but service rendered. The really big fortune, the swollen fortune, by the mere fact of its size, acquires qualities which differentiate it in kind as well as in degree from what is possessed by men of relatively small means. Therefore, I believe in a graduated income tax on big fortunes, and in another tax which is far more easily collected and far more effective, a graduated inheritance tax on big fortunes, properly safeguarded against evasion, and increasing rapidly in amount with the size of the estate."
- Theodore Roosevelt
What you're calling "socialism" is simply nothing more than a 3% higher tax on income above $250k. I don't think you understand what the term actually means. I also think you whine an awful lot.
No Dice Radical...
You did not earn my station in life, and I for damm sure am not giving it to you since you have not earned it.
Your man wants to do this; I wish him the worst of luck doing it, and will do all in my power to make less U.S. income the next 4 years...
You need to read some Ayn Rand writings to show you what happens when government tries to take from the producers and GIVE to the non-producers...
I repeat, I will not suffer under Obama, you will, but I don't want to hear you crying on this blog that you have lost your job etc., you brought it on yourself!!
