Log this in the too good not to share category. This article by Peter Hawkins dated Nov. 7 is from The Sydney Morning Herald in Australia:
The Republican party's post-election downward spiral continues with aides of John McCain saying that Sarah Palin did not know Africa was a continent.
Fox News anchor Carl Cameron claims McCain's aides told him Palin did not understand Africa was a continent, not a country, and that she also didn't know what countries were in the North American Free Trade Agreement [NAFTA].
Cameron says the source told him that Palin had no idea the US, Canada and Mexico were in NAFTA.
"I wish I could have told you more at the time but all of it was put off the record until after the election," Cameron said.
"There was great concern in the McCain campaign that Sarah Palin lacks the degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate, a vice-president, and a heartbeat away from the presidency.
"We're told by folks that she didn't know what countries were in NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement, that being Canada, the US, and Mexico.
"We're told she didn't understand that Africa was a continent rather than a country just in itself - a whole host of questions that caused serious problems about her knowledgeability.
"She got very angry at staff, thought that she was mishandled, was particularly angry about the way the Katie Couric interview went.
"She didn't accept preparation for that interview and the aides say that that was part of the problem. And there were times that she was hard to control emotionally - there's talk of temper tantrums at bad news clippings."
The Daily Mail reports that McCain's aides also said that she spent "thousands more" than the reported $US150,000 on clothes during the campaign, much to the shock of the donor that footed the bill.
Amazing.

FNC still requires a certain level of intelligence, which you obviously lack... you liberal drone...
"Fair and Balanced"
kcgrunt:
"FNC, which offers the differing viewpoints in a fair and balanced manner."
Yes. One generally expects to hear contrasting arguments about whether the moon is made of green cheese or not on Fox.
Is that "balance" or simply stupidity?
Oh my God, you two are hilarious
I know Sarah Plain is a conservative's wet dream, is that why some are calling her a whack job?
LOL
Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel
facelessdrone,
You points are well-taken, of course, but...
I just assume kcgrh is in the pornography business. That explains pretty much everything.
KCGRH HASN'T BEEN A WASTE OF TIME
KCGRH hasn't been a waste of time, if fact he's been the perfect foil. He gave me the opportunity to make my points. I'm happy for the exchange. I still think he just likes Palin cause she's a MILF.
Why Waste Your Time
kcgrh brags that he is "one of the ones the messiah is going to eff with higher taxes" and he "earned his station in life", from which we are supposed to infer that he is Very Important and makes Lots of Money. He threatens to "do all in my power to make less U.S. income the next 4 years" from which we should infer that HE will earn his money Overseas, because in the same post says "I will not suffer under Obama." He also claims to be well-read, but then comes up with stuff like the MSM didn't demand BO's birth certificate, which was only posted in pdf form on BO's web site for the last six months.
Why do you waste your time on such an obvious poser? The truly educated and wealthy don't use terms like "messiah", "eff" things up, brag about what they have, and they sure don't spend hours at the computer in the middle of the day responding over and over to posts. They are too busy actually making money.
"Joe the Plumber" was a lot like this guy: "I'm worried about Obama's tax hikes on the rich because one of these days I might get my plumber's license and then I can get a loan and buy a business and then I'm going to make a lot of money and you're going to take away my incentive." What BS.
Arguing with this poser is like wrestling with a pig, you just make yourself angry and dirty and the pig loves it.
kcgrh
Precisely. You miss MY point: John Galt is not a "who", he is a "what"--a character in a fictional book.
Yes here we can agree!
Yes here we can agree! The market was made too free in the sense that there was a lack of needed oversight. That is the fallacy in free market economics as it's been practiced in the USA. The producer (market) is free to do whatever is in their self interest be it good or ill. That is where Rand is wrong too. There is an important between laissez faire and free.
Still trying to blame the subprime mess
on minorities? We all can read between the lines and have heard this
bs before.

sub prime mess...
R, I would say that congress created the seeds for the subprime mess with the marching orders being give loans to unqualified people. Little Barney and Chris I get favorable treatment from CountryWide Dodd led the charge. Greenspan knowingly kept interest rates way too low for too long a period of time, further inflating house prices.
The govt. bailout merely shortcircuted "the market" again with the heavy hand of govt. I guess capitalism helping create the greatest nation in the world's history doesn't count for anything in your book. It does in mine.
Let's talk about Rand's "producers"
Her assumption and that of the Milton Friedman economists is that the market and the producers in the market will act with collective wisdom resulting in good for all which, sadly, our current crisis has proven to be a fallacy. "Producers" acting in self interest created the subprime mortgage market, very profitable for them in the short terms but disasterous in the long term. As Alan Greenspan dismayed, his long held beliefs in the free market have proven to be flawed. So are Rands. Not that self reliance, ingenuity, and personal responsibility aren't desirable goals but they cannot be relied upon to result in the capitalist utopia of Rand's imagination.
Palin Comments...
I am not saying they are either true or false. I was merely "contrasting" your liberal MSM, including the falling star, to FNC, which offers the differing viewpoints in a fair and balanced manner.
I thought, and continue to think, that if McCain had sought to block his "history", like the big O did, that your beloved MSM would have been all over this. Their hypocrisy is sad...
Having read AS, trust me I know it's FICTION radical....
I do think that the producers in this country are closer to acting as in AS however...
Who is John Galt?
Who is John Galt,John Galt is a fictional character
John Galt is a fairy tale. You CAN tell the difference between fiction and reality can't you?
So,if the Palin story is on FOX it must be true? The reporter's story was first hand direct from the source. Or, god forbid, you're not calling FOX or the republican source liars are you? That would be an apostacy. I think you're just smitten. You can't get that cheerleader picture out of your mind. Who would blame you.
Bravo Bruingirl
Bravo.
Only a conspiracy theorist nutter would believe Barak Obama is not a US citizen. LMAO
Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel
Bruingirl83
If you had read AS, you would know that throughout the book there was this question of Who is John Galt? It was a tactic used by the producers who were being driven out of business by the government. The producers of course merely abandoned their businesses to the regulators who, of course, had no idea how the producers did what they did and the businesses failed. Throughout AS the country is in at least a recession and probably a depression. Could this be a sneak preview into the big O land????????
So Much Rage
kcgrh, President-Elect Barack Obama's birth certificate is widely available from several online sources.
Obama was elected the first black president of the Harvard Law Review in his second year there--it's not possible to "forge" that particular credential. (It's also not possible to be accepted to Harvard Law School in the first place without an undergraduate degree.)
And, if you are familiar with Ayn Rand's writings--as you seem to claim--you know that John Galt is a main character in "Atlas Shrugged."
I find it so ironic
That the same people who cry the loudest about tax increases are the some dolts who supported the neocon's preemptive invasion and war in Iraq. Who the hell is going to pay for this? Should we bankrupt the country more by borrowing money from China? Sell another piece of America so our children and their children will inherit the debt.
The obtuseness of some is deafening!
Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel
oh sonoffrogue, its the GOP who's trashing Palin
They're reaping a whirlwind upon Sarah P, hammering the nail into her political coffin. She was unqualified when McCain and Steve Schmitt picked her and now they have lost they're attacking her lack of intelligence and qualifications. This does not bode well for the GOP.
Check out Fox News.

kcgrh, Really?
Your "station in life"?
How did you "earn" that, exactly? Unless, of course, "station in life" just means "money" to you. In that case, I'm just sorry for you.
Pssssssst Radical
The thing you libs do not understand about FNC is that they truly are fair & balanced, so, of course, they would report the recent comments about Gov. Palin by someone who won't reveal their name.
Contrast this to the MSM who gave "you know who" a pass and did not DEMAND such things as birth certificate, college and law school records etc. But then we know they, such as their buddy The Falling Star, are not fair & balanced, they are in bed with you libs...
Palin in 2012.
Who is John Galt?
Psssssssssst, Sonofrogue
It's the republicans (the people who know her the best) that called her the wasilla hillbilly, the diva etc. They are the ones that are calling her appallingly ignorant. Even a FOX reporter broadcasted that report. You believe FOX don't you? Or are you merely smitten?
AP
Reagan aspired to smaller government and low taxes but even he couldn't make it happen. His '86 tax increase was the largest single increase in history and it damaged the commercial real estate market for years. Behind it all he didn't really believe in small government, he just wanted in bigger in different ways and that's the real debate.
I think it's mutually exclusive to have small government/low tax and at the same time a large industrialized nation and world power, that's the dilemma Reagan faced and he chose the latter. Republican administrations since then have deluded themselves that they can spend and spend and never pay the bill. That's a discussion we need to have now. We all believe that governmanet should provide some things i.e highways, defense, schools, public safety, etc. Most American are shifting toward public health because it has reached the point that none of us, save super rich, can survive a significant illness. A two or three day stay in the hospital can cost more than most people make in a year, a major operation and recuperation can cost more than people make in a lifetime. So, should we provide for ourselves and each other collectively? Really, it's nothing more than "group" health insurance on a national scale. We need to have this debate and decide how we as a nation want to proceed.
The looney Left is on the march!
They are feeling their oats blaming the Republicans for the economic mess they created by ceasing all oil well drilling and shooting gasoline costs to the moon in the name of "global warming". Gag me with a carbon credit.
OH and lets not forget ACORN and fellow travelers crippling the mortgage business with subprime loans created by them in Congress and in Fannie and Freddie.
Now because they are scared to death of Governor Palin they are attempting to trash her. Those leftist loonies don't realize the back lash will only boost her clout, so please keep it up Louie the Whiner. Keep on repeating rumor. You are such a "quality" journalist.
OK - but this is not fiction
If you want to hear some real world solutions to big government, go to this website and listen (I suggest the audio-only) to a man that understood capitalism and what big government does to it.

We ALL work hard, we all "earn" our living. You don't work any harder than the guy that mows your lawn or the waitress that serves your food. It's a conceit to think that you haven't through luck or the grace of god been at least a little fortunate. And if you didn't know already, Ayn Rand was fiction.John Gault was make believe. Go read some economics. Look at the results of years of Randian trickle down free market economics. It's a failed philosophy.

We Shall See Who Whines Under the big O Interface...
I bet you will whine about what he does before I do... I will get shielded, you will be swept away with the high unemployment and runaway inflation he causes, or perhaps it will be deflation... either one I don't want to hear you "whine" about it!!!!
I've read Ayn Rand
and though her literary histrionics are entertaining and even a little thought-provoking, it is a little scary that so many seem to see her as relevant to modern-day America.
More relevant are the words of another American icon:
"At many stages in the advance of humanity, this conflict between the men who possess more than they have earned and the men who have earned more than they possess is the central condition of progress. In our day it appears as the struggle of freemen to gain and hold the right of self-government as against the special interests, who twist the methods of free government into machinery for defeating the popular will. At every stage, and under all circumstances, the essence of the struggle is to equalize opportunity, destroy privilege, and give to the life and citizenship of every individual the highest possible value both to himself and to the commonwealth......
"No man should receive a dollar unless that dollar has been fairly earned. Every dollar received should represent a dollar's worth of service rendered - not gambling in stocks, but service rendered. The really big fortune, the swollen fortune, by the mere fact of its size, acquires qualities which differentiate it in kind as well as in degree from what is possessed by men of relatively small means. Therefore, I believe in a graduated income tax on big fortunes, and in another tax which is far more easily collected and far more effective, a graduated inheritance tax on big fortunes, properly safeguarded against evasion, and increasing rapidly in amount with the size of the estate."
- Theodore Roosevelt
What you're calling "socialism" is simply nothing more than a 3% higher tax on income above $250k. I don't think you understand what the term actually means. I also think you whine an awful lot.
No Dice Radical...
You did not earn my station in life, and I for damm sure am not giving it to you since you have not earned it.
Your man wants to do this; I wish him the worst of luck doing it, and will do all in my power to make less U.S. income the next 4 years...
You need to read some Ayn Rand writings to show you what happens when government tries to take from the producers and GIVE to the non-producers...
I repeat, I will not suffer under Obama, you will, but I don't want to hear you crying on this blog that you have lost your job etc., you brought it on yourself!!
Tax relief for kcgrh!
Never let it be said that a lib won't reach across the isle to offer relief to a suffering neocon. I am going to trade you MY income for YOURS! I will step up and take one for your team. So I will take your income, pay your marginal rate and you can enjoy my much more favorable rate er (and income). And I am not alone, many many of my colleagues will, in the spirit of by-partisanship and reconciliation, do the same for any of yours. If you like we'll even relieve you of you burdensome jobs too! We'll trade. I know how envious you must be watching us enjoy the fresh air and sunshine while we mow your lawns or as we breeze along, carefree, in the beds of pickup trucks. Your admire our fitness that can only be attained by manual labor. Don't thank me, I'm doing it for America. Country First!
Not one of the 1% Radical...
I am one of the ones the messiah is going to eff with higher taxes, but he is also doing you, because if my costs(read taxes) increase in my business, I am for damm sure raising my prices, or getting rid of variable costs(read people).
He sold you a class warfare bill-of-goods, and you are not going to like the price you pay in a lower standard of living. My standard of living will not change, my ability to help less fortunate people will, but you voted for that to happen...
kcgrh is hoggin up all the prosperity.
You wrote, "after the messiah eff's up the economy we will be ready for "change" of the right kind, not of a socialist"
I want to come live in your ecomony cause the one where I live is already effed up, yeah. You must be hogging up all the prosperity. I want to get me some of that special conservative prosperity, yeah. You must be one of the 1%, huh?
As far as the "Wasilla hillbilly" goes (that was the name republicans gave her, not us libs) She'll be back alright. They don't have a Neiman-Marcus in Alaska.
palin back in 2012???
For what and as what????
Palin Will be Back in 2012
after the messiah eff's up the economy we will be ready for "change" of the right kind, not of a socialist...
you have 4 years to play in the sandbox libs, then the true party of the people will be back!
Having fun Lewis?
This coming from a "journalist" that says "socialist" is a code word for "black", after Obama made his "share the wealth" statement.
You're Right
Why would anyone ever believe anything on that left wing liberal Fox News?
So why start listening now?
This is truly ridiculous. "Unnamed" McCain aides = cowards. These people are falling over themselves to avoid blame for a truly pathetic campaign, where the guy who was supposedly in charge could not articulate a single reason why he would be the better economic steward.
So now it's a rush to blame it all on Sarah, who marched on doing everything she knew how to win. Pathetic. And to the liberal voices who are now eating this up, why would you just now start believing things spouted by Fox News and unnamed operatives? Just because you want to, I suspect. I, for one, completely reject the premise that she didn't know Africa was a continent. Please do some more homework before passing along such rumors.
