And so it ends for a teary-eyed Sarah Palin.
On Tuesday night she stood next to John McCain as he gave his concession speech.
When McCain thanked her for her service to his campaign, Palin -- who on this night looked just like Saturday Night Live's Tina Fey -- gave a few Fey-like waves to the crowd.
Now Palin goes back to Alaska to serve as governor, after having one of the most meteoric rises (and falls) ever for a U.S. politician.

The comments that people "should be very frightened of Palin as VP" are just as much garbage as those who still say they are frightened of BO in the White House. That is what is wrong with political discourse these days; not only am I right and you wrong, but you will ruin the country! Come on. Palin would have done fine as VP, it's not a very demanding job and she would have learned a lot by doing it. BO also will do fine as President. Let's try to give people a little credit, shall we?
Savor Our Victory Eh?
Conservativeforlife does seem a little bitter. Not only will we savor our victory today but we will continue to do so for the next 4 years. OBAMA 2008!!!!
Sarah Palin
I'm proud to have voted for McCain/Palin. And so proud of Sarah who was and is a great asset to the Republican party, she's got a great future in Republican politics and I hope she takes advantage of it. I'm not going to say anything about BO's lack of experience and knowledge because you all should be able to savor your victory for at least a day.
I hope and pray he steers his party to the center but it's highly doubtful, so to all who voted for him, congrats; to those of us who didn't we'll just have to hope and pray he and his party don't do too much damage to our great nation in the next 4 years.
conservativeforlife
I just have to ask: Do you not believe that our great nation is suffering greivous damage right now?
Is it your position that our new President is walking into a perfectly-functioning operation, and that's why you fear he will "do too much damage"?
"Lack of Knowledge"?
Really? Our President-Elect graduated from Columbia and then from Harvard Law School, magna cum laude. He's a well-traveled author of three books, and a law school professor at the University of Chicago Law School.
He's been a state Senator, and then a US Senator, from 1997 to the present.
Caribou Barbie
I am elated that Sarah Palin can go home and make some moose burgers. She is a political lightweight. The GOP suffers due to their campaigning through sound bites. Anti-intelluctualism has the US in our current state of affairs. She does not have the qualifications. She lacks an advanced degree and a worldliness. I would imagine she is the least qualified candidate in my lifetime. I hope she runs for President in 2012. It will be as laughable as the SNL skits featuring Tina Fey. Republicans keep me entertained. Obama in 2012.
Sarah Palin's future
I am sorry McKain-Palin lost. I appreciated both McKain's concession and Obama's victory speeches. Sarah Palin has gotten a bad wrap because she's a strong woman with strong beliefs and strong character. I like her, and when she returns to Alaska, she will govern as well if not better for the remainder of her term and perhaps run again, or even run for national office. I think she is outstanding and wish her well.

Goodbye, Sarah Palin
Both your rise and fall have been entertaining, but truly frightening for my beloved country. You are, simply put, not even remotely qualified to lead this nation, in any capacity whatsoever. God only knows what the Republican Party was thinking when they let John McCain choose you as a running mate.
Go back in peace, Governer Palin, to the biggest welfare state in the U.S. For America, indeed.
Bye bye...
Palin killed McCain's chances. Not that I'm terribly disappointed...

Well, we in Alaska have gotten to know Sarah a lot better than we did before, and it will be interesting to see what reception she gets. For a peek at one perspective: http://www.plasticopia.com
Final Hail Mary
"The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly." - John McCain
America's final "hail Mary" pass on Palin: We're going long on sending her back to Alaska!
Godspeed.
Whew!
Now that Sarah is going back to Alaska, I might actually be able to sleep again at night. And my blood pressure will go down, too! What a relief!!
Dear Whewwwwww...
So much anger...till I can to your Whew! LOL
Lighten up fellow Americans, it is over.
It is time to join as a nation no, to get some things done and straightened out. Because, we are in quick sand and sinking fast.
The majority has spoken just like it did with President Bush for the last two Presidential elections. And I can tell all of you right now I was not on either on of those band wagons.
McCain was not only defeated because of his association with Bush...granted it DID NOT HELP...but what you do in the dark does come out in the light. McCain ticket ran a campaign of fear...so did Bush. It worked last time. It did not work this time.
Make the President Elect out to be the Boogie man all you want...the Boogie man is still in the White House until the 19th of January.
Make Sarah Palin out to be experienced all you want...she was a Mayor of a town with about 7000 and then the Governor of a state with the population of a large town in California.. She was not ready to serve as VP or possible President at this time. Perhaps next...I am not sure. But a soccer Mom doesn't do it for me.
mavisdarling...I am with you...my BP went up to 265...and I am 6 nails short of a full set. For a Christian women, the woman [Palin] has a mouth on her...It might as well have been snakes and serpents that flowed from her mouth. I do not like a negative campaign.
The Republicans ran a ticket of fear, the Democrats ran a ticket of hope. McCain underestimated the American masses. They want and need hope. You could see it on all of their faces.
And as far as the World goes...there was a sigh a great relief. Those of you who are not listening to your fellow Americans, listen to the world, as it gave a huge sigh of relief.
We have a chance to start new. Lets all try...we have a long haul in front of us...let's do it together, not apart, we can accomplish more as one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Southern smiles and world peace,
Sharon/BabyBoomerQueen

Going back to Alaska??
The Packrat says that Sarah may be going back to Alaska and I only hope Obama was elected for the right reasons. Was he elected because he was the most qualified, or was it another reason. The reason you didn't vote for McCain, was it because he was a Republican or was it because he was too close to the Democrats?
I'll make anyone a bet, WITHIN THREE YEARS, YOU WILL WISH PALIN WAS IN THE VP SEAT AND McCAIN WAS THE PRESIDENT.
"THIS SHIP'S CAPTAIN IS GOING TO STRUGGLE TO FIND THE WHEELHOUSE BEFORE WE RAM THE SHIP". Obama's lack of experience will sink the ship! MAY GOD HELP US ALL!
Using all caps is at best
Using all caps is at best annoying and at least "douchy" (if that isn't a word, I'll petition Webster's citing packrat's post as clear evidence)
I am a republican that voted for Obama, though it didn't matter a hill of beans in my state of SC. What killed McCain was that he changed his views so much from 8 yrs ago in his "Maverick" days to endear himself to what he thought GOP voters wanted. The irony is that even GOP voters grew tired of being screwed over - they realized their ideals had been hijacked by a small elite looking to line pockets and increase personal power over the masses.
I don't think McCain is that guy whatsoever but he lost a very serious bet on his understanding of America. You could see it in his eyes compared to the conviction of his talks from a decade ago. Exit pollers I saw last night believed a vote for him meant a continuation of the status quo. That wasn't from Obama rhetoric either - McCain positioned himself as such even though most politicos know and SNL even joked about how much McCain dislikes Bush on the political front. However, his recent voting record backed up these fears of Americans and Bush's approval rating was in the can.
I'm nowhere near excited about Obama being in office but Republican leadership has failed America the last 8 years... or at least the "Republican leadership" that GW apportioned as his own. Hopefully we will rethink the mistakes of selling out our nation from the inside and from the outside and come back stronger in 2012.

You are so right. America, and our enemies got what they wanted. When the ship goes down they may then realize what they have done. And yes, God will help those that know what is really going on.
Packrat, you are so right.

A blind USA just does not realize what it did.
God will help those of us that know what is going on, those of us that are on the side of "In God We Trust", and not on the side of evil. The world won this one, but it will loose in the end.
"Side of Evil"
As one on the side of Evil, I hope we can make the world better for you. That world will allow for all people to have an opinion no matter how narrow minded it is. Even those that "loose" by an overwhelming majority are entitled. I'm just so glad that we can now move on and get this country back into shape.

If you believe in God, then I guess he's spoken.
Peskime,
Of course, but...
Janet's God only helps "those (of us) who know what's going on..."
(Not terribly Christian-sounding to me.)
Oh, Yes Janet,
It is so terribly unfortunate for our nation that all those "evil" icky poor people and minorities went out and voted this time.
God is so terribly lucky that you, personally, speak for him.
In response to
In response to Bruingirl83... I am seriously offended by your remarks, I am Japanese-Mexican (which includes two minorities) and I voted McCain, how dare you claim minorities to be icky people... the reason Obama won was not solely based on the fact that "minorities" went out and voted for him, it was more the fact that his ideals appealed to a populace that is tired of a Republican party that they associate with George Bush... I find this quite repulsive in that the Republican party is not defined by one man, and I believe that in the long run McCain would have been the wiser choice in this election... so for future reference, would you please think before you go out and blame minorities for things that happen that you are not fully pleased with?
In Yo,
1. I too, am a minority.
2. If you will please read the entire sequence of commentary, you will realize that I was obviously using sarcastic hyperbole, characterizing Janet's position that we have done "evil" by not electing McCain, and that God is going to turn on us somehow.
Bruingirl83
I sincerely apologize, I made the mistake of not reading into the whole subject, that is my mistake.
In Yo,
I'm sorry, I wrote that other post before your second one came up. Enough said, I apologize, too.
fyi
I would like to disclaim... that in my post i was also using sarcasm... i didn't actually read Janet's comment. But the rest of it is entirely accurate.

Dear Bruingirl83, I am one of those poor people, and a minority also. I do not speak for God, he speaks for himself in his word-The Bible.
Open letter to Janet Barkes
Dear Janet "hindsight" Barkes,
I read your comment on the internet today. I don't know you, I have never met you before in my life, but I am offended by your comments and audacity to think that you "know what's going on"
I don't feel that America is blind by choosing who they wanted as their next president yesterday, and neither does most of the American public.
Yes, we do realize what we did, we requested change, we demanded it, and we made it happen with the choices that we were offered. After 8 long years of people holding their breath in fear, they all gave a small sigh of relief. We finally will have change... and I will summarize what that change will be shortly.
I utterly despise when someone splits this country into two parties, saying that their side is, "on the side of 'In God We Trust'" and the other is evil. That is ludicrious and inane and you are so wrong that I am going to sacrifice you and your family to my Lord and Master, Satan. Hopefully, your family's burning flesh will make Beelzebub happy enough that he will use his black demon powers to allow Obama to create jobs for the working class and strengthen education for our children. Then... while holding the hands of demons... we will reach out across the world in evil diplomacy and end the hatred against America by negotiating with our witchcraft and dismantle all of God's holy military ammunition.
After this, all the evil liberal jew lawyers will pass new laws to make all abortions mandatory! Every pregnant woman will then legally have to kill her child and donate the fetus to us so we have something to stomp on when we dance in celebration of Osama bin Laden and Hitler Incarnate's gay marriage.
Then we will use our elitist black magic to fix global warming, which was obviously created by God since you radical conservatives don't want to blame humans for it... we will fillibuster God's plan and then tattoo ourselves with "666" on our foreheads then everyone will go get gay married in Vermont. (after fallating and emptying Satan's cock of his nasty black semen ooze for purposes of artificial semenation to impregnate christian women with his evil spawn army, of course)
The world WON this time! Obama Zeig Heil!
And of course God will help you "WHO know what is going on" not "that" know... you are not using correct English there... but that's besides the point.
God only helps those who know what is going on, and obviously by your statement, anyone who didn't vote for McCain and Palin doesn't know what is going on... so therefore God won't help them. Well guess what? We don't want his help... we're evil, remember? You must know that we did this purposely to bring about the apocalypse and millenial reign of the Anti-Christ, a.k.a. Dennis Kucinich
But what are you worried about really? The more power liberals have, the more gays we marry, the more dead fetus souls we poke with a clothes hanger and vacuum suck them straight to heaven... the closer you come to the second coming of Christ! Isn't that good? Why do you Christians want to stay on earth and run our government so badly? Don't you want to be in heaven? I think you should kill yourself and go.
Don't be a sore "looser" Janet, it will all end in fiery hellflame soon.
But I don't need to tell you that, you already know what's really going on.
Satanically,

Your "Open letter to Janet B." is so angry and hateful. I understand what she is trying to say, as I understand how you feel. I am on the left, and a Christ believer.
I think she is just fearful of what kind of change we will have with an Obama president.
I have friends that were for McCain. They are good caring people (nothing like you described)
"These people" believe that there will be an anti-christ, as is stated in the bible. The friends I have do not necessarily believe Obama is that one, but that our Country is closer to being in a state that is ready for him (the anti-christ). I do not think that Janet believes that God will punish anyone that voted for Obama. As the bible states,"in that day there will be those that are blinded"---meaning, the time, and those that are not ready for Christ's return. Those people are not evil, but are not ready for him.
As for her comment regarding "The world wins this one, but in the end it will loose (or something like that), I do not think the intent was malicious, but just a reference to the bible story of Christ's second return and the battle of Armagedon.
Just wanted to get a word in for Janet. I don't think she was well understood. After all, we are all in this government together.
In Florida
So, in sum, we have moved closer to the AntiChrist's time by electing Obama instead of McCain?
If McCain had won, we'd have more time before the reign of the AntiChrist on earth, but now we've just blown it and Armageddon is coming sooner than it was the day before yesterday?
Daniel,
(See, now "In Yo..." is just going to have an apoplexy.)
In Yo,
It's sarcastic hyperbole, okay? Extreme exaggeration of a position he doesn't actually take, to make a valid point regarding Janet's posturing about God's "revenge" upon all of us who "don't know what's going on."
Yup, enough said.

Back to Alaska
I'll take that bet, and raise you that you'll wish she wasn't Alaska's Governer by that time.
Palin
I have news for America. Palin is going back to Alaska but she got a round trip ticket. I will miss her and look forward to her return. God Bless Sarah and her family. I am so happy that she has been cleared of the smear that was done against her. The media was relentless on their abuse of her and she handled their childish attacks with stealth dignity. Karma has a way with handing back what was dished out. duchess
Sarah from Alaska
She was too much of a risk, she in my humble opinion would have set this country back 100 years. I am a black female veteran of 14 years who discharged with HONORS and a BRONZE STAR from service of this country to care for my family,my husband and I both agreed that both of us could not serve and preserve the future of our family. She did and does not represent me, I am fiscally conservative,self-aware,and love my country, but a VP who served on the Alaskan Independent Party(Separatist) would never be my choice for any office I would be under, neither do I agree on the fact that any minister should teach hate and imply there is no hope in this country. THE PEOPLE have spoken Clearly, it is time for a change in this country and from the last 8 years THAT TIME IS NOW!!!

Sarah Palin never joined the Alaska Independence Party. Her husband Todd used to be a member.

Sarah Palin
America woke up and realized that Ms. Palin is about as qualified to be America's VP as she was to be Alaska’s Governor.
If I had to hear her call McCain a MAVERICK one more time, I was going to barf. She is so bright that she attended how many colleges before she did not earn her BA? She voted for how many new stop signs? Did she ever date JOE THE PLUMBER, another great idea from the Elephants? He isn't even licensed.
She has no class--she did not even hang in with John to the end. She started her 2012 campaign for president before 11-4-2008. It is entitled "Sarah Who?"
Let's see, John had Ron Paul, Meg Whitman, Carlo Ferrini, and Hua Guofeng (just kidding about Hua), but picked Palin? Why? Because she was a heck of a darn good choice? Because we are such idiots we would line up at her door? This is the best Alaska has to offer America after snow cones and oil?
I say to the Republicans-you deserved the landslide. Shame on you.
