Exxon Mobil reported a record breaking profit of $14.83 billion dollar third quarter profit. It's not a big surprise given what we paid for gas this summer, but the real surprise came when John McCain immediately blamed the profit on Barack Obama for Obama's support for lower oil company taxes. Now either McCain didn't listen during the debates, or didn't hear, or can't remember, or he just plain told a whopper because I remember Obama calling for higher taxes for oil companies.
The financial crisis has proven that corporations are greedy and oil companies have no shame when it comes to ripping off consumers. We need to break our dependence on oil in general and redistribute the outrageous profits back to the people through higher corporate taxes.

And another thing, Tiller
Last evening I offered, in the first post on this thread, a "whole concept" rebuttal to your ridiculous post.
This one is focused on your unbelievable second paragraph.
A) The Oil companies have virtually nothing to do with the financial crisis.
B) The financial crisis has proven that all the politicians in washington did a shitty job, (Rs & Ds) nothing more, nothing less.
C) You say "redistribute the outrageous profits back to the people through higher corporate taxes." That may be the most convoluted thought that you have posted to date......that is unless "the people" is your perverse, left wing, socialist metaphor for the government.
And let's not forget as well
And let's not forget as well that on top of relative small profit margins and HUGE HUGE taxes they pay which is what keeps the country humming along. And the fact that companies like this and rich people like those CEOs are paying a disproportionate share of the income taxes.
Let's not forget that like tobacco companies oil companies are also FORCED by the government to invest in and spend their hard earned money in research and development of energy sources that would put them out of business
Al Gore has made 100 million
Al Gore has made 100 million dollars on his Carbon Tax Scheme. He lives in a mansion requiring 232 times as much energy to power each month as our houses do in a year. He has a 100 foot houseboat that he uses a few times a year.
Socialists (hiding in environmentalists clothing) are never shy. they are the most blatant hypocrites that you will ever see.
Nancy Pelosi lives in a spectacular San Francisco mansion, is worth 65 million dollars and spends a million dollars a year on designer clothes. She is the handmaiden of the unions and the powerful pseudo-environmentalists (aka socialists) lobbies who have been crippling America's energy industry for 45 years.
Profit
Where is the story on how much profit the alternative energy companies are making? My guess is if they make a profit, which might be difficult since that dreaded oil is still the most efficient source of energy in the world, their profit margins are higher than 8%. What is the profit margins for law firms? I bet they make more than 8% profit. Lets not even go to what the tech companies make, they might actually make obscene profits.
I own stock in the oil companies and I get a nice dividend on that profit. My guess is most people have oil stocks in their 401's or mutual funds and that profit increases their overall wealth. Seems like a good deal for me.
Denise again displays common moonbat tendencies.
OMG, the oil companies made a profit, OMG, OMG, lets tax the blooy hell out of them! Here's a hot flash for you Denise, oil companies make about 8 cents a gallon and the highest tax bills in the nation, plue they reinvest a huge amount in new product development. For Gods sake woman, take Econ 101 before you rattle your gums.
Get back on your meds Denise
Wow Denise, I hope that you are not responsible for the family finances with your grasp(or lack thereof) of economics.
Exxon Mobile's June 30, '08 income statement gives an actual picture of operations rather than a shrill, kool-aid driven idealogical rant.
During this quarter, Exxon Mobile made $11.68B on unbelievable sales volumes. This $11.68B however amounted to only an 8.64% profit margin. In many industries, this margin would not be acceptable in times of growth and high sales.
In addition, during this quarter, Exxon Mobile paid $10.53B in taxes. I wonder what the government is going to do with that.
The title of your letter is "Exxon Mobile makes record profits at our expense". This implies that nobody benefited from the exchange of fuel for cash.
In addition, it ignores the 107,000 full time employees of Exxon Mobile who I would estimate average better than $50,000/year income and also further fund the government through taxes to the tune of an estimated $1.35B.
I hope that you have no family or friends who would be layed off or have their benefits and/or wages cut by your idea of 'fairness'. I guess that the government would have plenty of free cash available under your plan to pay out unemployment benefits.
yadayada
Denise, you don't know what the h you're talking about. Leave it alone.
Hypocritical hoo hoo
They paid 32.8 billion in federal taxes in the same quarter ......which you conveniently omitted from your post.
There was a 1.6 billion component of the 14.8 that was the result of a sale of a subsidiary company which brings the operating profit down to 13.2 Billion
How bout you pay 250% more in taxes than you earn .....think you would be lobbying for a tax increase then?
Why don't you just say that you want to nationalize all of our businesses like your messiah wants to ....except insurance of course.... LOL...
