Sarah Palin has about one more week to come clean with Americans, tell them the truth and try to win votes for John McCain's ticket. Can she do it?
Not based on her actions so far.
Remember, a bipartisan investigation found that she abused Alaska's ethics laws when she tried to have the head state trooper get rid of an ex-brother-in-law. The report was released on Friday.
Yet Palin claimed to reporters over the weekend that she had been "cleared of any legal wrongdoing, any hint of unethical activity."
That's just not true, and Palin knows it.
She kept repeating her silly contention at campaign stops, instructing one reporter to "read the report, sir."
Yes, Americans should read it. Here's the money quote, repeated on press reports all weekend long:
"Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda."

BIDEN LIES... is 14 enough? Or do you need more? It's easy...
http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106306
The Biden Error/Lie/Hallucination List (UPDATED to 22)
Biden told last night, distributed by the McCain campaign. I’d just note two observations: first, when you tell stories of things that didn’t happen with the frequency of Joe Biden, coupled with his fervent belief of these untrue and inaccurate statements, I don’t think “lie” is the appropriate term. “Hallucinations” seems more accurate, I think. Second, they missed a bunch, so Biden’s list of li- er, hallucinations is well beyond 14.
THE CONSTITUTION: Biden: "Vice President Cheney's been the most dangerous vice president we've had probably in American history. He has — he has — the idea he doesn't realize that Article I of the Constitution defines the role of the vice president of the United States, that's the executive — he works in the executive branch. He should understand that. Everyone should understand that."
As noted by the McCain Camp, Article I of the Constitution does not, in fact, define the role of the Vice President of the United States. It defines the role of the legislative branch, otherwise known as the branch in which Joe Biden has served for the last 36 years.
[A reader writes in noting that Article I does mention the veep at one point — "The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided." However, by describing the veep's role in the legislature, it doesn't really help Biden's claim that it "defines the role, that's the executive, he works in the executive branch."]
IRAQ-AFGHANISTAN SPENDING: Biden said that the U.S. spends more in Iraq in one month than it has in Afghanistan in six or seven years.
That figure is off by 2000 percent.
‘KICKED HEZBOLLAH OUT OF LEBANON’: Biden: When we kicked — along with France, we kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon, I said, and Barack said, ‘Move NATO forces in there. Fill the vacuum, because if you don’t know — if you don’t, Hezbollah will control it.”
Reuters thinks he meant to refer to Syria, but I still don't think it would be accurate to say the U.S. kicked Syria out of Lebanon. The Lebanese kicked Syria out of Lebanon.
VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ACT: Biden's statement that McCain voted against the Violence Against Women Act is accurate. But as Robert Byers notes, the Supreme Court ruled in United States v. Morrison, the Court ruled that much of Biden's law was an unconstitutional power grab by Congress of rights reserved to the states. Nobody voted against the WAWA because they support violence against women; they objected over constiutional concerns that a Supreme Court majority validated.
The McCain camp's list fourteen lies/hallucinations can be found here.
UPDATE: As I suspected, there are others.
RESTAURANT: "Look, all you have to do is go down Union Street with me in Wilmington or go to Katie's Restaurant or walk into Home Depot with me where I spend a lot of time and you ask anybody in there whether or not the economic and foreign policy of this administration has made them better off in the last eight years."
According to this Delaware site, Katie's Restaurant is no longer in business; locals remember it on Union Street 25 to 30 years ago.
ARMS CONTROL TREATY: Biden: "Number two, with regard to arms control and weapons, nuclear weapons require a nuclear arms control regime. John McCain voted against a Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty that every Republican has supported."
I have no idea where Biden gets this "every Republican has supported" claim, as 49 other Republican senators voted 'no' with McCain.
When the roll was finally called on October 13, the resolution to ratify the CTBT (including the six safeguards that Daschle had submitted as an amendment) was defeated by a 51-48 vote with one abstention. (See the voting record.) Forty-four Democrats voted for ratification as did four Republicans: John Chafee (R-RI), James Jeffords (R-VT), Gordon Smith (R-OR) and Arlen Specter (R-PA). Fifty Republican senators and one independent (Robert Smith of New Hampshire) voted against ratification, and Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) voted "present." The treaty fell 19 votes short of achieving the necessary two-thirds majority necessary for ratification.
WEST BANK ELECTIONS: Biden: President Bush insisted on elections in the West Bank, when I said, and others said, and Barack Obama said, 'Big mistake. Hamas will win. You'll legitimize them.'"
The Washington Post's Glenn Kessler notes that "Obama had been a senator for only a few days when the election took place, but if he made such statements, they did not appear in news reports or transcripts that are contained in the Nexis or Factiva databases."
PAKISTANI WEAPONS: "Pakistan already has nuclear weapons. Pakistan already has deployed nuclear weapons. Pakistan's weapons can already hit Israel and the Mediterranean."
I won't quite chalk this up as a lie/hallucination, but Biden is on shaky ground here. (See below.) The distance between Israel and Pakistan is 2,085 miles, or 3355 kilometers. The longest-range existing strategic missile in the Pakistani arsenal has a range of 3000 kilometers, but it might have longer range with a lighter payload. (But how much can you lighten a nuclear payload?) They are working on developing longer-range missiles; maybe Biden knows of some development that public sources do not yet know about. Theoretically, the Pakistanis could put the weapon on a boat and then sail it to the target, but by that standard, any site on a coast in the world is within their range.
ANOTHER UPDATE: This site indicates that the top range of Pakistani missile that can carry a nuclear warhead is 1000 miles. By being off by 1,000 or so, I'm now upgrading this to full lie/error/hallucination status.
Independent Fact Checker Says Sarah Palin Lied
To be nice, an independent fact-checker says that Palin's statements are a "reverse of the truth."
(I don't know about you, but that line gave me a bit of a chuckle.)
What media outlets and pundits will do to not use the 'l' word, but describing it as a lie by every other possible means.
Palin's denial of the commission charges earned her the dreaded '4 pinocchios,' the worst rating possible.

He is quick to draw the dagger, a tad slow in accepting any personal responsibility... oops, another liberal trait....
American
you have an awful lot of time on your hands.
At least PCB is witty in his snarkiness.
Let's talk about you... PilonidalCystBoy
You're intelligent, crafty... and what else? Forget the election puppet show. Let's talk about what a God-like being you are. And what DO YOU do? What are your dreams? Are you an American? Do you HATE American people who value our historic past? Do you disapprove of having values or religious belief OR would you love to see Christians hung from electrical polls, churches closed, and the Constitution banned in favor of a more socialist government where you, I and everyone can be EQUAL. Where we all benefit from the inspiration and genius of the few, sharing the wealth? You want FREE health care run by doctors that have NO reason to EXCEL because they all get paid the same minimal wages equal to ghetto Arab owned gas station clerks? What DO YOU want? You want nationalized banks... a one world government? Let's hear from you... oh God-like one. You've not answered ONE QUESTION about Obama that I have presented here in my posts in this blog. WHY? Because you can't. YOU CAN'T! Nothing. Instead... you mock anyone who cares to try. I gather you're an elitist since you don't think anyone should write here unless they are equal to you in academic skill. You are the only one who should be allowed to post in this pompous liberal Kansas City toilet of journalistic puke. So PRAISES to you and your kind. And I do hope that you find sugar-free Popsicles® so you can choke to death on the sticks when you're done sucking.
And another thing...
How long has it been since you've seen even a short post from one of these acolytes of Zarkon, the Space God with nothing misspelled? Do they go to a special school, or something, that teaches them how to forget everything they learned from grades K-6? The fascination with micturition and excrement I understand--birds know air, fish know water, pigs know offal--but can't they at least get a full sentence off?
I'm bored, and I'm out of sugar-free Popsicles®.

Obama regarding Ayers, Dorhn, Rezko, Odinga and others...
Let us hear from Obama regarding Ayers, Dorhn, Rezko, Odinga and others. And can we PLEASE get one story that doesn't change daily????
So far... if all you can dig up is a lame story about Wooten and Monegan and whether or not Palin did or didn't fire them correctly... I think you're in a very small margin of actual significance.
Firstly, WE CAN'T JUDGE OBAMA'S LEADERSHIP QUALITIES BECAUSE HE HAS YET TO LEAD OR HEAD ANYTHING!!!
NOT AS HOCKEY DAD,
NOT AS MAYOR,
NOT AS GOVERNOR
OR NOT EVEN AS A SCOUT TROOP LEADER.
So SHUT UP!
This issue does not AT ALL rise to the level of import. It so sophmoronic, it pains my fingers to type anything about it. But since Abouhalkah *cough* insists that this is a REAL INDICTMENT OF NATIONAL CONCERN... I'm playing along. But let's return to the real issue:Obama regarding Ayers, Dorhn, Rezko, Odinga and others.
Let's talk about Obama's membership in a church that awarded racist anti-semite Louis Farrakan the "2007 MAN OF THE YEAR AWARD" or something else that HAS LEGS!
Obama has created nothing. Obama has built nothing. Obama has never balanced anything with reguards to finances except his own check book. He has been absent from making important decision hundreds of times instead of leading the votes. He has done nothing for the last 6 years but run for higher office. He talks in platitudes and not from knowledge or experience. He reads his lines to perfection with an air of confidence and with the image of a leader - like an actor playing a part. He's a shoe-in for an Oscar so he's loved by Hollywood. He appeals to the poor and ignorant - gee doesn't he just look like a president. And he has the money behind him from some of the most corrupt, evil people on the planet. The middle class working americans are about to get hosed by this guy and the evil that surrounds him. If America is lucky we'll sqweak by this time and keep Obama in the Senate until he's ultimately just a bad memory. If he wins this election then God help America.
"American" - - Uhh.....
A dingbat smacker?
A doofus hunter?

you have it incorrect -- the KC Star Readers Rep breaks it down here:

Oops, well, sorry, didn't read your chart. Maybe not.
Sarah Palin engaged in an unethical abuse of power! LOL!!!!
For even the most dim witted writers and readers, the trooper, Mike Wooten, served at the pleasure of the Governor of Alaska. That means that he could be transferred or fired for ANY reason. Insubordination sounds like a good one.
IS THAT THE BEST YOU MARXIST OBAMORON'S CAN FIND AGAINST PALIN? Really? You're pathetic. LMAO!
OBAMORONS!!!!
Let us hear from Obama regarding Ayers, Dorhn, Rezko, Odinga and others. Get one story that doesn't change daily.
He might also be honest about his tax cuts on 95% of Americans as over 30% of Americans pay NO tax currently--wouldn't that be a socialist welfare refund? Let him tell us how taxes on everyone earning $20,000 and more won't increase when the current tax cuts are stopped by him.
Let's hear how he will give everyone free healthcare paid for by a plan that will cost $50 billion to set up and show NO profit for 15 years.
His proposed tax credit for 1 year on new jobs would cause mass unemployment in 2010 when the credit is gone and company let employees go.
This joke of a "jobs" tax incentive, where he's planning to give small businesses $3000 for each job they create. WHAT!!!??? WE DO NOT HIRE PEOPLE for tax incentives, we hire people to increase profits. Hiring an employee does not CREATE profit! No business can hire an employee for a $3000 incentive, and obligate himself to another $40,000 plus benefits IN HOPES THAT IT WILL CREATE SALES OR PROFITS.
This is nothing but EVIDENCE that NObama has NEVER run anything as much as a koolaide stand!
In no way does NObama's $3000 incentive improve the economy. It's a stupid idea by a stupid politician.
Actually ask Obama to tell the truth about anything!!! He can't.
88 comments on this article
and not many of them have any substance at all. Most are zealot rantings about their party's choice for president or vice-president.
The sad commentary is that Americans make choices about such things as president of the United States or representation in congress based on what party they belong to rather than what they can be expected to do once elected; their priorities, their strengths, their weaknesses, their records.
What has Obama accomplished in his time in congress? Has he authored any legislation that would address any of the major issues facing our country, for which he now has "a plan" to fix each and everyone of them. I he now has "a plan" to fix everyone of these matters, why hasn't he authored ANY legislation in congress to address them?
Clearly, it is the responsibility of congress to pass legislation to deal with these matters, not the White House. All the White House can do is lobby congress, suggest policies, and veto legislation (which congress can then override if they have the support to do so). So, all the retoric from the two candidates is just that: retoric. Neither has the authority to do anything they are promising Americans they will do if elected.
The bigger fear is a democratic president and a democratic congress. At that point, there are no checks and balances. Whatever Pelosi wants, she will get. Whatever Obama wants, he will get.
The answer is checks and balances. Americans, wake up to the reality of politics.
Palin claims Insubordination, and OBAMONY is not economy!
Palin's so-called "abuse of power is laughable! So, after the liberal media sent what, 3000 news reporters to Alaska, this is the BEST trash story they can dig up? HELL! All you've done is demonstrate that Palin is the most honest politician we've got!
For even the most dim witted writers and readers, the man served at the pleasure of the Governor of Alaska. That means that he could be transferred or fired for ANY reason. Insubordination sounds like a good one.

Friedman's Obit...
showing a major role in supply side economics...sorry PC boy.... ULA....
http://money.cnn.com/2006/11/16/news/newsmakers/friedman/
And of course, his crowning triumph...
The financial meltdown of 2008, the result of his long campaign against regulation.
Reagan's supply-side "economics," which is NOT Friedman, was an absurdity that led to the longest, slowest recovery in U.S. financial history, culminating in a tripling of the national debt during the Reagan administration due to Stupid Ronnie's colossal unfunded spending. If he "debunked" the idea of unfunded spending, the Republican administration wasn't listening. His major achievement was to return emphasis to the role of money supply in policy and analysis, but nothing more.
Again, his notoriety was due in great part to his forensic abilities, rather than lasting good theory.
Milton Friedman
I think that Friedman had a substantial influence on economic thinking.
His work was the basis of Reagan's supply-side economics which of course led to the economic boom of the 90's.
Also, he dubunked such liberal approaches as government running the printing presses to keep us from a recession as accomplishing nothing else but debasing our currency.
His work on money supply is also still valid economic thought...
Finally, he was one of the leading professors at Chicago Business School, one of the top 5 in our country.
I think he had a substantial impact on economics, which is why he was worthy of the Prize...
The point is actually minor, but...
Milton Friedman had little cred as an economist, per se, but was known as a ferocious debater. Not as ideology bound, of course, but the same reaction in the profession that Rush Limbaugh gets from professional broadcasters: he's a complete idiot as far as what he's saying, but they stand in awe of the WAY he says it. The Nobel was a tribute to his ability to steamroller opposition to what was basically a wild overstatement of the importance of a boring idea, as in, "We KNOW he's wrong, but we can't prove it, dammit."
The only corollary is that Friedman isn't an impressive quote unless he's speaking directly to his area of expertise. Nothing else, really.
For KCGrunt: Oook ook urh urh ang-gang-ga.
What is your point?
What is your point?
Sorry Again PC Boy....
Milton is deceased, so your verb tense is incorrect.... A Nobel Prize winner is a mouthy little jackass???

But...but...
Milton Friedman is a mouthy little jackass, or don't you read the journals?
HISTORY SUGGESTS THAT
HISTORY SUGGESTS THAT CAPITALISM IS A NECESSARY CONDITION FOR POLITICAL FREEDOM” – Milton Friedman
Social Security
Keep in mind that Social Security is an insurance policy not an entitlement. Congress can change the rules any time it wants to change them.
A quick, easy solution to the Social Security liquidity problem would be to eliminate the salary cap on SS tax. Such a move would allow the payroll tax for SS to be reduced substantially. The argument that the people in the higher brackets will be paying more tax than the benefits they get back is no different than a driver claiming that they should get back their insurance premium when they no longer have a car. Social Security is an insurance policy.
Just to make the millionaires happy. If they are penniless at the time of their retirement and they have paid in millions in SS taxes, they will get a benefit of $250,000 to $500,000. But seriously folks, how many millionaires do you think will fall into this situation? And what do you think a former millionaire would do if they suddenly had $500,000 in retirement benefits available to them? Do you think they might invest it to make more money?

The problem remains the same
What possible mechanism can be set up in time to vet the loans, or do we buy them at face? You are correct that there was an analogous program during the Depression, and that many of the properties were sold at a profit by the government, with one critical difference: the Depression didn't take place in the context of a housing bubble, with severely inflated prices relative to, not the market, but any defensible "real" valuation of the properties.
I dunno.
Buying Defaulted Mortgage Loans Is the Only Solution
McCain's proposed the purchase of defaulted mortgage loans (the cost is estimated to be around $300mm). This is similar to what this country has done during Great Depression. It worked. The government even made money on it.
It took our FED more than a year to recognize the extent of our problem and the amount of leverage that has been created in our financial system. CDS market today is $64 trillion, the World GDP is close to that number.
I said it more than a year ago and I will say it again. The only way to solve the crisis is to purchase (selectively) defaulted homes . A lot of leverage has been created on top of the housing market properties via the structured product market. Buying one defaulted home could cure millions of bonds tied into the performance of the property. This is how it all started this is the only solution. McCain is talking about, the problem is nobody is listening.
last chance to come clean
rom the Branchflower Report findings:
"Governor Palin's firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads."
"The Governor may discharge department heads without cause. The constitution provides that department heads "serve at the pleasure of the governor". Those who serve at the pleasure of their employers are subject to discharge at will."
Contradicts the headlines, don't you think? Abuse of power charge is just food for fodder to help destroy her.

America Will Make Another Mistatke
America is blinded by its hate toward GW Bush. When America (I did not) elected Bush it made a mistake, when it elects Obama it will make another error.
Obama believes in higher taxes for people who work harder to achieve higher goals in their lives. He believes in redistribution of wealth, That is Marxist ideology see quote below. Obama’s policies his rhetoric and some of his militant friends reminds me of the good old USSR. Both Communists and Hitler came to power on a platform of CHANGE. You will soon find out what it is all about!
“FROM EACH, ACCORDING TO HIS ABILITIES; TO EACH, ACCORDING TO HIS NEADS.” Karl Marx
Ziaic1
I appreciate this constructive exchange of ideas. If Obama becomes elected, of course I will resort to being optimistic toward his economic plan. Regarding the evidence about which ideal is better for the economy, I just want to point out that I don't believe we've seen a steady decline in jobs since Bush took office. The unemployment rate has fluctuated over the last 8 years. In Bush's defense, the America that he inherited is much different than that of Clinton. Many would agree that the national/international security crisis prompted by 9/11 has had an enormous burden on our economy. The way we do business altogether, in almost every sector, has undergone an incredible makeover sinec 9/11. For a while, shipping into our ports was nearly entirely halted and it has never recovered completely.
With that being said, unemployment was never as high under Bush's term, as it was under Clinton.
If Obama is elected, I hope his term will be as mild (in comparrison to others) as Clinton's. I certainly don't trust Obama to be capable of dealing with international threats, as he is willing to sit down with Iran without preconditions. He also stated that he's willing to enter Pakistani territory in hunt for Bin Laden (even without their willingness). It's even obvious to me that you don't say something like that even as a President, let alone at a presidential debate.
Lastly, I need to research Obama's health plan more. It seems like it involves less privatization and more government control. While at first glance it seems inappropriate, I support the idea of privatized health care based on "earning more money by providing less service."
I like the idea that McCain will give Americans a tax credit to shop around between different private health care providers.
Taxing the rich
Zaic, you are confusing taxing the rich with taxing corporations. The whole concept of taxing corporate structures instead of the owners of the corporations, the stock holders, is what leads to higher prices. The corporate minions pass the tax on in the price of the product. When you tax the stock holder on the income earned from the sale of products it is not something that can be passed on to the consumer in the form of a price increase unless of course there is only a few stockholders in the company. The fairest method of taxation for corporate earnings is through the stockholders. Such a tax program can be structured to eliminate or dramatically reduce the deductions stockholders now have on dividend income. The restructuring of the whole corporate income structure can be done in a way that benefits everyone, not just the people at the top. Corporations are not people. They should not be viewed as people. They should not be treated as people by the legal system. They are pieces of paper in a filing cabinet. The stockholders are the real owners of the corporations and they should be held responsible for the actions of their companies whether good, bad, or indifferent.
Dear Mr. Abouhalkah
I understand that what Sarah Palin did, if not technically illegal, may have been improper, but from what I understand about the situation, I'm not sure that I wouldn't have done the same thing if I were in that position. It sounds like this Trooper was a loose cannon and shouldn't have been entrusted with his position. And if no one was going to fire him, then I also would have fired his superior. Not only for my family's sake but also for the sake of the public.
scootmandubious
You said, "Whether or not the Branchflower report -- which was launched by a bipartisan committee -- was a partisan smear job is debatable. What is not debatable is that the report clearly states that she violated the State Ethics Act."
If you're saying that the motive for the report is debateable, you can't say that a certain aspect of the report is not debateable.
With that being said, the report definitely paints the picture of Palin abusing her authority for the sake of personal/family issues. If the report is accurate, Palin should have let the Wooten issue go a while ago.
I can understand her passion to keep from letting a state trooper get away with wrong doing, especially since she has first hand experience of the questionable ways of that trooper.
I would have liked to see Romney as the VP candidate, or even the Presidential candidate. Either way, I feel that Obama's motives are based on an ideal of America that does not benefit its people. Main street & Wall street are in the same neighborhood. I'm not for trying to create a civil war between the two.
Lastly, neither McCain or Palin have sat on a board of directors with an unrepented terrorist. If you analyze the actions of William Ayers and agree that they were inexcusable, then you have to question Obama's association with him. If you can find justification for Ayers' actions, then you have to question your own morals.
I wasn't even born when Ayers committed those violent, terrorist acts, but just reading about him makes it clear to me what kind of person he is and therefore, I couldn't justify sending my child to a school where he is a teacher, let alone sit on a board of directors with him.
joewillard - Thanks!
I guess we will settle to agree to disagree on some of the subjects. During the Clinton era there were more jobs during his tenor than most presidents. He had higher taxes on corporations and more jobs were created. Bush has had lower taxes on corporations and we have had a steady decline in jobs. The overall data is from the last 20 years and shows what current policies work or henceforth do not work. If you for example worked for a company like Adobe (software company) and more of middle America could purchase their software products then they will be able to create more jobs and/or pay more to their employees for their hard work. There is a fine line because they now have to cover the additional taxes. Though, with Obama's heath care plan then the actual cost for companies to pay for insurance drops which ends up saving them money. I started this writing with "agree to disagree", because I thank you for intellectually debating these issues. The reason I wrote such a dramatic statement to the writer dubbed "American" because his logic is greatly flawed. Based off his writings they do not claim any intellectual merit. So the overall affect of Obamas policies help create jobs, raise pay, and provide health care. One more thing about Social Security. I would love to have the option to opt out of it to invest for myself. I am sure I would have much better portfolio than the governments track record. The problem is not everyone is smart enough to manage a portfolio or know even what it is. I am a big believer in "Free Markets". Except the US policies that regulated too many things for hundreds have now offset the ability for a %100 free market. If we deregulated everything then we could have to experience another Great depression before we bounced back. A small part of deregulation occurred with Wall Street and now look what has happened.
Look around, KCGrunt

If you take away social security and leave it to the American public to invest on their own then we would have a crisis. 90% of Americans would be clueless on what to invest in or even question what the stock market is. Then 30 years down the line we woul dhave an abundance of homeless old people."
I tend to believe that American people have the resources to manage themselves fairly well to a certain extent. And to the small extent that I agree with you, I don't agree that the government (run by American people) should do the managing. We may not even have social security 30 years down the line thanks to the government. The government didn't manage to keep Americans and the economy away from this current financial crisis. Of course the government should provide a baseline of care to those who absolutely feel they have no control over their lives, but otherwise, the government should invest more in educating people to take care of themselves.
There are aspects of your recent comment that I agree with, but I don't think any of what you said disproves my theory about a lower tax burden on the rich creating more jobs for the middle class. I still believe that if the rich are taxed more, they'll offset those tax increases with increased costs to the consumer. Maybe that $500-$1000 could afford me the TV I want, but I'd rather earn $70k to afford that TV, my living space, car, bills, etc, by working for the efficient company who has the money & demand for technology jobs, as a result of sound business practices and a lower tax burden.
I can't buy into the idea that tax breaks to the rich are only going to benefit CEOs. I don't agree with "golden parachutes" and of course if a corporation does not produce, CEOs should not be rewarded. That's a separate issue. If a corporation uses its tax break to increase inefficiencies and make CEOs richer, then of course it should face the inevitable burden of layoffs, closing its doors, etc.
I support the utilization of outsourcing in the manufacturing and servicing sectors and I agree that if you make yourself valuable according to the evolution of the American & global economy, then you will have a job.
Because some corporations wont do with the tax break what they should be doing, I don't agree with switching to an economical approach that is less beneficial for the country.
The Washington Post just gave Palin '4 pinocchios'
The fact checker at the Washington Post just gave Sarah Palin '4 pinocchios.' In other words, they are calling her a liar.
The report concludes with the following, clear statement of fact:
Whether or not the Branchflower report -- which was launched by a bipartisan committee -- was a partisan smear job is debatable. What is not debatable is that the report clearly states that she violated the State Ethics Act. Palin has reasonable grounds for arguing that the report cleared her of "legal wrongdoing," since she did have the authority to fire Monegan. But it is the reverse of the truth to claim that she was cleared of "any hint of any kind of unethical activity."

Thanks for the basic course on economics. Actually, I studied economics at Stanford University (though my major was physics). I am in the salary bracket were I will actually be taxed more. When the middle class has more money they are more likely to go out and buy merchandise. If you had an extra couple thousand in your bank account and you wanted to get a new TV chances are you will go buy one. That benefits the TV maker and all companies that the TV maker uses to build the TV. My old view was I definitely wanted to be taxed less (who doesn't?). The unfortunate thing though is America is full of people that need to be managed. If you take away social security and leave it to the American public to invest on their own then we would have a crisis. %90 of Americans would be clueless on what to invest in or even question what the stock market is. Then 30 years down the line we would have an abundance of homeless old people. I am sorry, but I am willing to pay more to stop people from living on the street. I actually own my own business and the capital gains would be less in Obama's plan than the current plan. Small business and Start-up businesses generate a huge amount of jobs. Large corporations try to do more with less (hence productivity based off efficiencies). If one company can do some thing more efficient than another they will make more money because they are spending less on inefficiencies. If company A can create the same product with 5 employees and company B creates the same product with 10 employees and they sell the item for the same price to be competitive then who wins? Company A, but some of the efficiencies to do the same task with 5 employees could be technology. Then it sparks technological jobs. So you are complaining that you are going to make a thousand dollars more a year and I am going to be taxed more? Personally, I rather have these large companies pay more to cover health care cost than to give CEO's golden parachutes. Companies like GM that are laying off tens of thousands of people are doing so because they have major inefficiencies. Toyota makes 4 times the amount per car than GM. The American public then cries when people are laid off. Those people that are laid off need to continue their education or their jobs will be sent over seas. Why pay a guy in Detroit 35/hr when I can have a guy in India do it for 5/hr? Now, lets say you need a top level engineer with a lot of creativity. He will always have a job and his job will not be sent over seas. The American public HAS to become smarter. The only way we are going to get out of this mess is by inventing efficiencies (cars with better fuel millage or creating power from wind). So this change in taxes will not drastically change how many an employees a company will hire. If I need a developer I am going to hire him if I can make more than what he cost and if more people are buying my product than it becomes a wash. So you end up with a nice new TV and the company that makes it gets to keep its employees.
Democratic President +
Democratic President + Democratic Senate + Democratic House = NO_CHECK_AND_BALANCES
I do think Obama will come to power and together with his friend ms. Pelosi they will change this country, forever. I doubt there are many people in this great nation that were hoping for this kind of change. When Obama wins, America loses.

This was turning into New Big Fun, then the bubble popped. I'm not buying "American" and "PalinFan" as legit, folks. Understanding tax cuts
The US economy is fueled by the consumer market. A tax cut for the middle class puts more money into the hands of consumers who may or may not spend it on products and services. A tax cut for the rich doesn't increase spending or investment. It is such a small group that their spending doesn't do much to expand the economy. The idea that the rich will invest in new businesses is silly. There is no evidence of such an event taking place on anything remotely akin to the buying power of the consumer.
Consider that at one time the owners of Crown Cork and Seal Company reduced their work force only as a last resort. Their reasoning was that a worker with a dollar to spend was better for the local economy than an unemployed worker. The managers of the company understood that the whole community benefits from the consumers ability to buy goods and services. They would take salary cuts and reduce workers hours before they would put anyone out of work. How many corporations have that type of foresight. Most are managed by greedy managers who do not understand the importance of the consumer to the health of the country. Corporations that play to the analysts on Wall Street are unpatriotic because they are more interested in short term corporate gain rather than the long term economic health of their community.
Corporate income taxes should be eliminated, however, only if the true owners are taxed. Companies should be required to pay a dividend to the stockholders and the stockholders, the true corporate owners, should be taxed on that income without the benefit of gimmicks to avoid paying the tax on the dividends.
Eliminate corporate tax and prices will go down. Lower prices means greater consumption and an expanding economy. Corporations should not be treated as individuals, they are not. Corporations are pieces of paper in filing cabinets. The stockholders are the owners, they should reap the benefit of the corporate enterprise and pay their fair share of the privilege of having a business in the United States.
Check the Guy's Last Name!!!!
Wake up America! Check out the guy's last name who wrote the anti-Sarah article. Does he sound like a real American to you? She is a true American with a true American name and Todd sounds like a terrific dude too. I read on the net that he helps make a lot desisions in Alaska and I hope he can do the same thing for us two, national wide.
Dear Senator Nelson (Florida)
Dear Senator Nelson,
I do thank you for your NO vote on the "Bail Out Heist" bill. You are among those few who STILL HAVE A BRAIN. I sincerely appreciate it.
Do you and the others in Washington at all realize that you have lost ALL credibility? You have none. I'm talking about you collectively. Not specifically you. However, what has been going on here is frankly... criminal neglect... criminal theft and as far as I am concerned... (and most all of my friends agree...) BETRAYAL on the most extreme level. Paulson, Berneke, Bonnie Frank, Wall Street... GW Bush... the entire lot of you should be arrested and interrogated by neural public appointed agencies for TREASON against the American people and the Constitution of OUR NATION THAT WE SENT YOU TO WASHINGTON TO PROTECT!
MANY OF US ARE IN FORECLOSURE AND ARE LOOSING OUR JOBS. NOT BECAUSE WE FAILED OR DID SOMETHING TO DEFRAUD OUR RESPONSIBILITIES... BUT BECAUSE WASHINGTON HAS STOOD BY FOR MONTHS IF NOT YEARS, AND ALLOWED THE BANKING SYSTEM TO GUT OUR NATION'S WEALTH AND RESOURCES.
Forget about blaming Democrats or Republicans because BOTH have FAILED to LEAD! And this puppet show election isn't the answer either.
And until the American people wake up... there will be NO SALVATION. Because one thing is certain.... WE HAVE NO LEADERSHIP WE CAN TRUST OR BELIEVE IN!! Paulson appointed KashKari to manage the "bail out" bill... do I need to explain to you anything MORE than that fact? WE are not as stupid as you politicians think we are.

"Wasting a vote" in this election actually means voting for either of the 2 nominees.
A scum who supports killing aborted babies that survive their attempted murder v. a scum whose wife loyally supported him during his captivity only to be unceremoniously dumped on his return.
What a "choice". Voting for either of them is truly wasting your vote, especially because Obama is obviously going to win - not that he's any better than the other clown, McCain - and so we might as well use this good opportunity to write-in people who best represent our actual consciences. Whether they are "eligible" or can win is irrelevant. Use the ballot box (where still available) to send a message.
For me, that's Muhammad (peace be upon him). For Christians, Jews and others it might be someone else. In any case, if large numbers of Americans voted for their favorite religious figures, it would send a message to the geniuses leading both parties who gave us the choice of Obama and McCain that if they want to pick up more votes then maybe next time they better find someone who at least has minimal moral decency - unlike both Obama and McCain. And no, I don't mean Clinton or another Bush, either.
Interface-OOH, don't get me started
How short is our memory. First of all, the President doesn't write bills and set spending levels, Congress does. All the President does is decide if he will sign the bill or not. Obviously that gives him a fair amount of power but Congress sets the agenda. I vividly remember the budget battles during the Clinton administration and especially when the Republicans took power in the Congress. It was the Republicans that stood their ground and insisted on a balanced budget. Bill Clinton wisely went along but he by no means deserves credit for any surplus. Congress does. And its somewhat funny to hear Democrats now talking about balancing the budget. Since when did they get religion about balanced budgets? But maybe they can force the Republicans to get back to where they once were about this.
If only Congress had the same discipline that they had back then. Now it appears that both parties are drunk with spending and don't seem to care what it does to our economy or our children. The Republicans are in the pockets of business and the Democrats were clearly in the pocket of Franklin Raines and FannieMAE. I say throw them all out.

you said.."I will admit Palin and Obama both fall short on foreign policy experience"
Still comparing Obama & Palin? If you're going to type another essay, try to make it count next time.
Speaking of doing the job right, how is Obama's plan of taxing the rich an example of doing the right job? When you tax the rich and give breaks to the middle class, you put an extra $500-$1000 in the pocket of the middle class worker, while increasing expenses to the rich corporations. That causes the rich to increase costs, which is ultimately paid for by the middle class/consumer (there goes our $500-$1000). When you give a tax break to the rich, you free up a few 30-50k /yr. jobs for the middle class. I'm middle class. I'll take a 50k/yr. job from a rich corporation over a $1000 check from the government any day. If you're going to vote for Obama, at least make sure he's doing the right job.
Muhammad
Someone wrote..."As a Muslim, for Nov. 4th, I'm writing in the Holy Prophet Muhammad for President."
Muhammad was not born in the US and therefore is not eligible to be the president. Don't waste your vote.
Prior to blaming the
Prior to blaming the democrats for the bail out bill, ask yourself who wrote it. I'll help you: Bush's appointees. Ask yourself who pushed it. I'll help you again: Bush himself. Then ask yourself how it passed. I will help one more time. Twelve republicans demanded that the bill be earmarked with things that would help them get re-elected. No, not things that would make the bill a better solution to our economic woes- but a better porkbelly bill. Remember, it was republicans that proposed the bill and then held it hostage.
I hate democrats, but you republican folks really amaze me. If for just a minute you could stop talking about democrats taking your hard-earned tax dollars maybe you could assess whether republican spending practices of constantly borrowing money makes sense.
Here is the analogy: You need $1 million to pave a highway. You can collect the $1 million through taxes and be fiscally done with the project right now. Or, you can borrow the $1 million, do the job, and pay back nearly $2 million (got to pay interest) over 20-30 years. Still make sense?
Dummy up America.

I show no compassion towards blatant ignorance. Everyone has ignorance, but its a matter of will to determine if they want to actually learn. How many politicians do you know? I know quite a few and I can tell you personally not all of them are that intelligent. Just because they are in a high ranking position does not mean they are smart. One name comes to mind "Bush". Just because he has the title of president doesn't mean he is the most intelligent man. Though, he did attend Yale, but that's only because his dad paid his way into that school. "We are all Americans", that is a true statement. You say to compare the twos foreign experience. I will admit Palin and Obama both fall short on foreign policy experience. I just want the person with more intelligence to be in the position to make the calls. What is intelligence? Let me reference Aristotle's metaphysics... He stated Memory is equal to intelligence (not %100 percent true but close). The example he used what if someone was dropped into the woods and saw a fire for the first time. They stick their hand in the fire and they are burned. Their mind remembers by their sight and their touch (pain from the fire) and ties the two together. The next time an individual sees fire he knows to make an "intelligent decision" and not to touch the fire. Now intelligence can be interpreted differently (something called the Cartesian dualism, but that's for a different discussion. Now life is nothing but taking in material (from reading, studying, and real live experience) and combining that knowledge to make intelligent decisions. Now if you interpret your knowledge (what is stored in your head) in the wrong way than your intelligence becomes distorted. You can normally tell would a person interprets knowledge because they have a good fundamental logic. A person with exceptional logic and normally determine another person with exception logic. Its easy to determine in this case who has better logic. I remember hearing at one company I provided consulting for that a specific individual told me very angrily that I was wrong on an architectural plan. He stated he has been doing architecture for 15 years. I then stated just because you have been doing it for 15 years doesnt mean you have been doing it right. Ended up that if they didn't follow my plan there would have been a major disaster.
Sheer stupidity
YOU are the reason this article matters. Palin's reaction to charges that she acted unethically as a representative of the people demonstrates that SHE USES HER POWER FOR PERSONAL GAIN, just like your buddies Bush and Cheney did.
The reason YOU are the reason this article matters, is that Palin has used racist, misleading speeches, reminicent of Joseph McCarthy. She openly denies the truth in order to spread her propaganda of lies to people like you who swallow it hook-line-and-sinker. I guess it's more convenient to believe Obama is a terrorist, or that he hasn't been more than clear about his policies (which he was plainly spelled out on his website) than to admit to everyone that you are racist; that you can't handle someone whose name isn't Chuck or Bill or Sally. That you don't want to admit that you don't want to vote for Obama because he isn't white.
You are the poster-boy (or girl) for the GOP this year. Their philosophy is lie enough and people will believe it. It didn't take long to convince you. I don't know if you were alive in the 50's, but if you were, I'm sure you were a big fan of segragation and the GOP's own, Joseph McCarthy. It's people like you, who are unbelievablely susceptible to propaganda who are responsible for the downfall of America. Anyone who displays such an utter lack of intelligence or moral compass does not deserve the right to vote.
As for what happened to those banks: read a newspaper--that's easy their assets became worthless. Some of that money is in the hands of those who benefitted from the housing boom, other is in the actual houses that were purchased. If you have questions about Paulson, why don't you ask your boy Bush--a man with similar economic leanings as McCain (deregulatory).
Also, if you have questions about Fannie and Freddie's money being doled out, how about the $2 million dollars they paid to McCain's campaign advisor. As McCain said, Rick Davis never registered as a lobbyist for the companies, so he must have received that money to whisper sweet deregulatory nothings into McCain's ear.
And 'Roy Ayers' (man you ask a lot of questions)--who is that? Do you mean William Ayers? Of whom Obama's association has proven to be loose at best? This is where your McCarthyist side shines through. Obama sits on a board with the guy to decide what to do with an education grant and now he's a terrorist. By the way, someone who sat on that same board has donated $1,500 to McCain's campaign. Does that mean he's being funded by terrorists?
Before you continue spouting non-sense, why don't you at least make sure you aren't the victim of the GOP propaganda machine. Go to a neutral fact-check site like factcheck.org. At least that way, you might make a somewhat defensible arguement; maybe even something rooted in truth.
We are a racist country?
Maybe racism is deep rooted in America's history and we should never forget the lessons learned from that history, but America is not currently a racist country. I'm American, I'm not racist. I don't know of any American policies that are racist either. Sure there are still racist people in America. For example, look at the racial hate that spews out of the church that Obama has attended for the last 20 years. Have you seen the Michael Pfleger clips on YouTube? He tells white people to feel guilty for being the beneficiaries of slavery, saying that the only way we shouldn't feel guilty is to give up our 401Ks, trust funds, scholarships, etc. The ENTIRE congregation was in an uproar of support for those comments. Do you honestly believe that Obama and his family would have been the only ones to walk out of church that day if they had been there? He only distanced himself from that church when he started running for president and it blew up in his face. Even Oprah left the church shortly after joining, because of how extreme it was. Obama's second book is titled after one of Rev. Wright's famous sermons. Please convince me of how Obama's ideology does not stem from racist views.

American?
Yes, I am going to pay Al Gore for carbon tax... Sike... You have nothing to say except hate. Too bad the Nazis are no longer around or you would be a perfect candidate. I would love to divide this country once again. Lets separate people like "American" from the intelligent people. You guys can have certain states and have McCain/Palin lead and we will have the States that vote blue. If that's the case then the blue states would still have one of the largest economies in the world. The red states that are lead by Palin/McCain would be close to third world countries with a huge poverty rate and a huge gap with education. The blue states would have mostly educated white collar. Our economy would right away improve because I wouldn't have to pay for your guys unemployment, welfare, medicare, social security, and etc. Plus with our large economy we could afford better military development. What's your game plan with your high school diploma?
Obama vs. Palin?
Since when have they been running against each other? But while you're comparing the two, what is Obama's foreign policy experience? After all, he's the frontrunner (not Palin). And why not choose a more fair comparrison like, "Harvard Law or State Governor?" What is the Bush doctrine? And what do you get out of trying to sound smart by putting down those in support of McCain/Palin? We're all Americans. Can't you demonstrate your supreme intelligence by showing some compassion toward those less fortunate than you? If not, you're no better than them.
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE KIDDING?
Americans are NOT stupid. Read the ENTIRE report. Mrs. Palin violated the trust the Alaska citizens placed in her. The findings of this report clearly showed she had a strong hand in pressuring subordinates to act on a matter that was clearly a personal matter....THE ISSUE is not just about wanting her brother-in-law removed from his duties but more importantly, she harassed subordinates...which is clearly unlawful. If Mrs. Palin were so concerned with her safety and her family's safety, why did she actually decrease her security detail? Why did she not ask for "protection" ? Also, I have spent a great deal of time perusing the Internet to read everything I can on Mrs. Palin's governorship and I've found there is another questionable ethical issue involving Mrs. Palin, i.e., she has used PUBLIC funds to further her religious views. It is clear there is a climate of "fear of retribution" in Alaska and it's just a matter of time until Pandora's box is open.

Sad
I agree whole heartedly. It is very sad that there is such division and different perceptions that unfortunately or fortunately will affect the whole world.
I remember when Bush was selected how we had to apologize to the whole world. People keep forgetting Iraq had NOTHING to do with 911, and yet we have destroyed a culture due to Bush's lies and greed. Where did it get us? We are in a complete recession. Why did the bombing happen when Bush was in office that is a question I think deserves looking at, because he has a relationship with the Saudis and it was Saudis that bombed the Twin towers.
Part of the problem with this country is the lack of good education, enabling people to think for themselves. Now it seems all you have to do is call someone a terrorist and you will have judged and condemned them instantly based on name calling.
Look at what Obama is doing now he is rising above the smears, name calling, slandering, he is trying elevate us and help us see who he is. He is a hard working American who voted against the "war" in Iraq, he has helped people on a community level, when he could have been using his Harvard degree to pull in the bucks. He understand the American dream because he lives it. We are a racist country, but we have the opportunity to redeem ourselves, by looking at the life of this man, his vision and by giving him a chance. He and Biden both have the education the background and nobody gave it to them, they worked hard for it, and I think have their values prioritized. Obama wants to contribute to a world that his children can live in. Give him a chance
Wimp
Q. "What the hell kind of name is Yael T. Abouhalkah?"
A. It's the name of an American you can look up and identify, which is something you can't do with just "American".
Q. "You know what. You come here to Lutz Florida with your stupid Palin trash article and well debate it in my front yard."
A. A brave challenge to a writer from an anonymous McCarthyite coward who hides behind the moniker "American" but doesn't post his name, address and phone number.

I don't support either McCain or Obama; both are immoral and dangerous to our country; Obama because he supports killing aborted babies who survive their attempted murder; McCain because of his disloyalty to the wife who lovingly and patiently waited for him all those years while he was a POW.
As a Muslim, for Nov. 4th, I'm writing in the Holy Prophet Muhammad for President. Members of other religions can write in the names of their religious leaders, too, to send a strong message that the American people aren't going to put up with any more moral degenerates as presidential nominees and that we now firmly reject the "lesser of 2 evils" baloney.

'cause it sure sounds to me like you're just blowing smoke out your ass.
thanks American
for reminding us that we had a surplus and were actually in a position to pay down the national debt the last time a Democrat was in office.
Hmmmmmmmmm
The last I checked more candidates who won in the polls, LOST the elections than visa versa. Polls are polls. Personally, I don't want a leader who follows the polls. I want a leader who leads. Imagine that. You can't... because your mind is scrambled with NObama lies.
Racist Church?
Technically Obama's former church is not a black church it's part of a larger group of white churches. But if you want to blame a person in the audience for the words or actions of the priest, there are a lot of Catholics that need to be charged with child molestation. If you want to talk about crazy churches go look at Sarah Palin's circus church that deals in witch craft. Sarah Palin has actually spoken and actively participated in the crazy things her church does.
Palin is also not a conservative, as the Mayor of Wasilla she spent like crazy and got federal earmarks to help pay for her spree. She only was able to pretend to be a conservative at the state level because she had the ability to raise windfall profit taxes on the oil companies to create a budget surplus. And her high rating, which is now gone, was pretty much guaranteed when you disburse thousand dollar oil money checks to every citizen every year.
And Obama has actually defined his policies more than any other candidate in history. We know who he is and what he stands for.
The real question you should ask is who is john mccain. We know he is not the guy from 2000. We don't know if he is or isn't still the guy from the 80s that ruined people's lives. And considering how much lying and flip flopping he has done in the past month, there is no guarantee what his policies will be like as president. The only thing he hasn't flip flopped on is the war. Which means there is only one thing we know about mccain for sure, he will continue to be insanely liberal with spending in Iraq and funding the Iraq war. Which will continue to bankrupt our country.
Ethics reports are as useful as this editorial...
This editorial comment is an example of what passes as journalism today. Trying to pass off an ethics report as objective fact and judgement is like trying to propose that this editorial article, by Abouhalkah, is objective. Neither are, but both seek to posit political agendas as some kind of fact in the public eye. The 'money quote' referenced puts this succinctly. That anyone would position a political opinion on ethics as the strongest statement in a report belies the lack of intellectual rigor that influences the editorial section of this paper. What the ethics report did not address is the responsibilities incumbent on executive positions; that is the need to exhibit leadership by making the right decision, as unpopular as those decisions sometimes might be. To the thinking citizen, instead of any kind of dark conspiracy, this report implies that Palin has exactly the kind of qualities that this country needs. The ability to make the tough decisions focused on the necessary actions to guide the executive office of the nation - even when those decisions are unpopular. Ethics committees are actions of last resort for those hand ringers in bureaucratic positions who can't really do anything about an issue so they have an ethics review to try to drum up an issue where there usually isn't one. Kind of like Abouhalkah's editorial; he can't really do anything so he tries to portray a political driven agenda wrapped in ethical conspiracies in the papers of the public press; don't be fooled America, you are smarter than this.
no nonsense
Just because she was cleared soley on her rights to fire at will, which by the way is much like the right to work states where you can fire somebody because you dont like the color of their eyes. The commission did find that she abused her power and position. That is an ethical concern and she has shown to have no ethics in this race. She is an isolationist and an opportunist who has no business running a country. If we are so blind as to allow more of the same we will have to live with what we get. Another 4 years of the same. I dont think we will fair well on that course. Gawd help us

Sad
I just read some of the previous comments and I am saddened that the American people on this post are that stupid. Especially, the article submitted by "American". Anyone that thinks Palin is an intelligent human being scares me, because that means they are less intelligent than her. Lets see... Someone who went to Harvard law or Palin that doesn't even know what the Bush doctrine is??? Her foreign policy experience is that she can SEE Russia from Alaska! She doesn't think environment issues are man made!!! Sure, that's intelligent... Let's see... Man dumps pollution in lakes and fish die. Man creates emissions that are toxic and it depletes the ozone layer. Man cuts down trees and less oxygen is created. In extreme comparison if you cut down all the trees in the world and destroy all of our oceans which actually produce more oxygen than any other resource (think algae) than what would convert our pollutions back into oxygen? So if have less trees and more pollutants then what happens??? Wait, your telling me she doesn't understand basic science? You see these people that are for McCain/Palin that are angry and thats because their mind cannot comprehend reality. If you like her that much move to Alaska.
Palin
Again, those that voted for Bush are the same ones who support the McCain/Palin disaster. Have you learned nothing from the past 8 years and by the way the culmination of the past 8 years right in front of your eyes.
All they cared about was power, money and their own interpretation of the Bible. You cannot steal, lie, kill and then say God Bless.
Palin won't come clean????

Hmmmm
And yet polling shows that McCain lost both of the first two debates. What does that say about McCain?
"LostDemocracy" is a moron
I am still awaiting for Obama to produce his birth certificate
I'm sorry, but the level of dumbassitude exhibited astounds me at times.
Just google "Obama's birth certificate":

Completely fake issue by smearers intent on disrupting our American democratic process.
Something ain't right with palin
im sorry, but i don't think she is who she says she is. this is a report from the people that are making the laws in our country! If Americans can't trust what they say then who can we trust?? Politicians that pretend to live the same life we do?? I love this great country and I believe Bush has acted in our best interests even if the media hates him. THIS woman is a risk for us. a risk of self-serving politics and country last!!
Palin is Dick Cheneyesque
Palin is just like Cheney. In their mind's eye, they are above the law, above judgment. They think they can lie with impunity. Its right in the report - I guess she thinks maybe no one knows how to read - just like her.
