Give John McCain credit: He went on the attack Tuesday night and narrowly won the second presidential debate.
No wonder McCain likes the town hall debate forum: McCain was more forceful, more pointed and more opinionated during almost the entire debate.
Overall, though, the debate broke no new ground, produced no large gaffes and stained Tom Brokaw reputation. He couldn't keep the debate focused at all.
During the meeting, McCain got in sharply worded responses to practically anything Barack Obama brought up -- on energy, on health care, on world affairs.
By contrast, Obama -- while having some strong stances -- never seemed to gain his footing. He looked uncomfortable during much of the town hall meeting.
The GOP candidate didn't back down once when Obama said he was going to set the record straight.
Instead, McCain was constantly bringing up information to rebut what Obama was saying.
So McCain narrowly wins, for what that will be worth in the coming polls.

Re: Did I miss a debate?
Neverbetter,
Bravo!
Did I miss a debate?
I thought all channels showed the same thing.
The debate I watched had John McCain referring to Obama as "that one" and shuffling around behind Obama on camera. I kept worrying he wouldn't be there when it was his turn to speak.
He looked lost.
Then, when he tried to talk about how irresponsible it was for Obama to tell us that he would "order pursuit" of bin Laden if we "had him in our sights", Obama pointed out that THIS was coming from a guy that thought singing "bomb bomb bomb Iran" was responsible behavior in a public official.
What I want to know is why McCain didn't mention "domestic terrorist" William Ayers!
Is it because news reports are saying that the McCain campain is accepting dirty campaign money from Arnie Weber, an associate of William Ayers?
Arnold R. Weber is an associate of William Ayers and a campaign contributer to the McCain campaign. I have called on Senator McCain to either shut up about this guilt-by-association or PUBLICALLY renounce Arnold Weber with the same level of vitriol that he and Sarah Sixpack heap upon Senator Barack Obama.
Senator McCain has maitained a stoney silence about his relationship with William Ayers and Arnold R. Weber. When will Senator McCain tell us the truth here? Why did Arnie Weber give Tom Ayers that job? Why is there a residence hall named Ayers on the Northwestern University campus?
CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS FROM ASSOCIATES OF BILL AYERS
MCCAIN CAMPAIGN ACCEPTING CONTRIBUTIONS FROM ASSOCIATES OF KNOWN TERRORISTS?
The Ayers-Weber-McCain connection. Truth? Guilt by Association? We report. YOU Decide!
Arnold R. "Arnie" Weber is a Chicago Annenberg Board Member and Chicago "insider". He was an Assistant Secretary of Labor and Associate Director of the Office of Management and Budget under President Richard Nixon. Arnie Weber, has held other Washington "insider" jobs, was former president of the Commercial Club of Chicago’s Civic Committee, and is a longtime REPUBLICAN donor. Arnie Weber was a member of the infamous **Chicago Annnenberg Challenge** Board, which was founded by known "TERRORIST" Bill Ayers!
Sarah "Barracuda" Palin was pointing out the "guilt by association" connection with Senator Barack Obama, a member of the same board. This, however, is a two way street and Ms. Palin may not understand this. The simple fact is, BY PALIN'S OWN DEFINITION, John McCain has accepted "tainted" campaign money from Arnie Weber, an associate of Bill Ayers.
Arnie Weber has given the legal limit of $1,500 to the McCain campaign in 2008. It's true! In 2008, Arnie Weber made two separate donations of $1,000 and $500 to McCain’s presidential campaign run by ex-lobbyist RICK DAVIS.
I strongly urge Senator McCain to renounce this man and his "terrorist associates", and to reject these donations. John McCain should investigate how such a thing could possibly happen inside his own campaign before seeking to cast stones at Senator Obama. RICK DAVIS needs to explain to the American voters his reasons for accepting this money. Are they really that desperate?
THE "LIBERAL MEDIA" SHOULD ASK JOHN MCCAIN WHY HE ACCEPTED TAINTED CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THIS "TERRORIST" ASSOCIATE. Arnie Weber doesn't deny that he associated for years with a "known terrorist". This is probably because he hasn't been asked.
It turns out that these types of "facts" are simply baseless smear attacks with no merit. They are meant to distract the less informed voters near the end of a campaign. You don't hear about them very often because most people want to talk about REAL issues affecting REAL lives, not play "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon".
For example, it turns out that you can trace Obama's family tree to both George W. Bush (10th cousins once removed) and Dick Cheney (eighth cousins). This is yet another useless "fact" for Trivial Pursuit, but not worthy of time in this national election. Guilt by association is an attack on voters and on the democratic process. Voters need to learn about the issues.
Some associations, however, do need scrutiny. RICK DAVIS is worth talking about. Why? If a person is running the campaign and at the same time is profiting financially as a lobbyist, the American voter has a right to know the details. The information on RICK DAVIS is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Davis_%28politics%29
HERE IS A MAN THAT MADE MILLIONS AS A WASHINGTON LOBBYIST. This guy is a caricature of the very thing that John McCain claims over and over again that he "hates". EARMARKS ANYONE? Rick Davis PRACTICALLY INVENTED EARMARKS. He launched his lobbying career straight from a Reagan White House job! McCain calls that "revolving door" politics. Now RICK DAVIS is CEO for the McCain presidential campaign.
How can we believe John McCain is against wasteful government spending after learning about his campaign manager?
Rog, here;s a thought
I don't like John McCain or his policies. I reside in the southwest (not in AZ but in neighboring New Mexico) and I am all too familiar with McCain's record. He has the worst record in the senate on children's issues (including healthcare), an abysmal 10% by the CDF. The Disabled Veterans have given McCain a D Rating on Veterans Issues. He has NO environmental record to speak of, which is ironic since he now claims to be a champion on the issue of Global Warming. He voted against the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act for women and he is patently anti choice. Like many of his conservative brethren he is pro life but cares nothing for the child after it's born. More concerning to me is the fact he is an old man who has a history of malignant melanoma (four cases, one thought to be stage 3) and that horrid, incompetent woman Sara Palin could be his successor. She is a fundamental lunatic and haven't we had enough of that sort of nonsense with Bush?
Thanks but NO THANKs.
This mama is voting for Obama.
Re; You fail to make your point,Rog, and here's why
Lol. Could not agree more.
You fail to make your point, Rog, and here's why
NOT ENOUGH CAPS!!!!!!NOT ENOUGH EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!!
McCain was outstanding
I keep reading that Obama was precise and I would like to know precise in WHAT ??? All he mentioned was the same, same, same old boring coments . He keeps blaiming Bush for the economy . Is that all he can say?? Just to point fingers . We know we are not at the best with the economny but AS I'VE SAID BEFORE I PREFER MCCAIN BECAUSE HE HAS BEEN THERE AND KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS TO GET THE ECONOMY UP AND RUNNING. I do agree that McCain was not at his best on the first debate, but the second debate one can SEE CLEAR THAT HE IS READY TO BE PRESIDENT. It's funny that people don't want to see the truth about Obama and his lack of experience... but on the other hand when election time comes in November we will really see who will win... McCain all the way!!
Are you kidding? McCain
Are you kidding? McCain looked like an old guy who forgot his talking points so could only recite the list from the last bad ad that ran. Obama looked and presented himself as presidential, calm, collected, in charge.
WHile McCain seemed like a fussy little fly buzzing around trying to get attention. Obama by 20Points.
