Tom Brokaw was supposed to be the mature, strong leader of the debate between John McCain and Barack Obama.
Yet Brokaw early on let both candidates wander all over the place in their answers.
And Brokaw didn't make them adhere to the time limits at all, especially in the "discussion" part of the debate.

Yael, Gwen
put me to sleep in the VP debate. She was tenuous and timid, perhaps because she knew she should have pulled out as moderator. (I hoped that Gov. Palin would greet her by inquiring about an advance copy of her Obama book.) Brokaw has the most credibility of any current TV journalist and I thought he was congenial and fair, and I thought the questions were thought-provoking - how would you rank the top issues...great question.
er, Karen...
did you not watch the entire debate? First 9 questions:
"With the economy on the downturn and retired and older citizens and workers losing their incomes, what's the fastest, most positive solution to bail these people out of the economic ruin?"
"Senator, we have one minute for a discussion here. Obviously the powers of the treasury secretary have been greatly expanded. The most powerful officer in the cabinet now. Hank Paulson says he won't stay on. Who do you have in mind to appoint to that very important post?"
"Well, Senators, through this economic crisis, most of the people that I know have had a difficult time. And through this bailout package, I was wondering what it is that's going to actually help those people out?"
"Sen. Obama, time for a discussion. I'm going to begin with you. Are you saying to Mr. Clark (ph) and to the other members of the American television audience that the American economy is going to get much worse before it gets better and they ought to be prepared for that?"
"Sen. McCain, in all candor, do you think the economy is going to get worse before it gets better?"
"How can we trust either of you with our money when both parties got -- got us into this global economic crisis?"
"There are new economic realities out there that everyone in this hall and across this country understands that there are going to have to be some choices made. Health policies, energy policies, and entitlement reform, what are going to be your priorities in what order? Which of those will be your highest priority your first year in office and which will follow in sequence?"
"As president, what sacrifices -- sacrifices will you ask every American to make to help restore the American dream and to get out of the economic morass that we're now in?"
"President Bush, you'll remember, last summer, said that "Wall Street got drunk."
A lot of people now look back and think the federal government got drunk and, in fact, the American consumers got drunk.
How would you, as president, try to break those bad habits of too much debt and too much easy credit, specifically, across the board, for this country, not just at the federal level, but as a model for the rest of the country, as well?"

If the AIG junket
at $400 K was real, I think we have a right to know what it was about. Neither candidate addressed all of the issues I am concerned about and repeated campaign rhetoric - enough of Bush, etc. - far too much. But I still maintain that only McCain offers the depth and skill I want in the nation's president. I am sorry you are so frustrated. If Obama wins, we'll ALL be out of work.
I am SOOOOO MAD !!!
I CAN NOT BELIEVE they had the nerve to not ask one question about an economic stimulis package or talk about how they might could help people that have already lost their jobs or homes !!!! We just spent 700 bil to help THEIR rich buddies and now find out they were taking money we sent to help them and going to a $400K spa vacation !!!! I have news for ALL the "NEWS" people out there...America does not CARE right now if we hurt Pakistanis feelings for shooting Bin Ladin !! We care about where we are going to live , how we are going to feed our families...those that have jobs want to know how we are going to be able to afford the gas to go to work !! I AM LIVID ABOUT THIS PIECE OF CRAP DEBATE!!!
DEBATE....! What debate.. ?
The second presidential debate and not one word about the illegal immigration occupation of this nation. Neither Obama or McCain even mentioned the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens US taxpayers are financially supporting. Neither candidate mentioned that hundreds of thousands of illegal alien families were given mortgages, that they could not afford.
McCain said we don't need mandates, but say nothing that taxpayers are forced by mandatory laws to pay for for the children of illegal aliens education. My son feels like a stranger, in a strange land in a Los Angeles school, where all he hears is bad Spanish.
This is no longer isolated communities whose corrupt Politicians, Governors, Mayors and elected officials, who have sold America to the Special interest lobby.
Now the middle class already overburdened with war appropriation funds, is still force to pay for the education, free health-care and Federal, state welfare handouts for illegal criminals. SIGN UP FOR THE SAVE ACT(H.R.4088) enforcement 'ONLY' law at www.numbersusa.com.
