While Democrats seems to be wringing their hands over Sarah Palin's popularity, Barack Obama suddenly took a 47-45 percent Gallup Poll lead over John McCain on Wednesday.
That means Obama has wiped out McCain's five-point lead of just a few days ago.
Bad U.S. economic news -- all occurring under the watch of a GOP president -- clearly is weighing on McCain's campaign.
As the Gallup pollsters said: "There is thus a correlation between the bad financial news and Obama's gains....
"Throughout the campaign, Obama has generally held an edge over McCain when voters are asked who could best handle the U.S. economy, although McCain gained on the economic dimension in polling conducted immediately after the GOP convention."
However, I'm not sure even Obama wants a continued, steady drumbeat of negative economic developments the next seven weeks.
That might mean he would be elected, but to lead a country in financial peril.

Just these candidates who
Just these candidates who are running for office and know the problems are so widespread and so ingrained into our society that there is a rough road ahead. I do, however, know more than likely that Obama will be getting my vote in Nov. because I cannot, absolutely canno.

Economically, the country
Economically, the country has done better under Democrats, so it is not surprising that the poll reflects Americans' concerns over the recent economic developments.
That's actually factually true

Is Obama a felon?
I have been waiting for days to see anything on this important story in the star ....so here goes.
It is now as clear as Rocky Mountain air that Barack Obama, in a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, tried to undermine his own country’s negotiations with Iraq during his July visit to Baghdad. Even the Obama campaign can’t deny it because there were multiple witnesses to the exchange.
Why is the mainstream media ignoring this story? You would think this was just another John Edwards affair story, which they ignored until they no longer could. This is far more serious. The Democratic nominee for president of the United States attempted to change and alter a critical agreement between the U.S. and the government of Iraq. He blatantly urged the Iraqis to stop negotiating with the Bush Administration and wait until the Messiah takes office.
While the media desperately seeks to destroy Palin with the “Troopergate” non-story in Alaska, or investigates who paid for Sarah Palin’s tanning bed, a U.S. senator who has not been elected president attempts to undermine legitimate negotiations between the man who has, and the government of the nation we would like to stop occupying and encourages a longer stay.
He does’t even deny doing it. While he would like to, he cannot. On top of that his supporters are acting like jilted jihadists by continuously threatening the life of the man who broke the story. That alone should raise the ire of the MSM….but it won’t.
Why is the mainstream media ignoring the story? Obviously, they want Obama to win the election. But it goes deeper than that. They’re ignoring the story because they don’t see anything wrong with what Obama did.
If you’re a reasoned, thinking American and you’re sitting there thinking Obama has no right to undermine a president when dealing with a foreign government in a time of war, you’re right……but the MSM doe not agree with you.... The idea that we support our president as commander in chief, and that he and he alone has the right to make foreign policy, carries no weight with the media. They look at Bush’s poor approval ratings and the perceived unpopularity of the war and say to themselves: “Well, Bush should not get to negotiate anything. He’s leaving soon, we don’t like him, so what’s the problem?” To the mainstream media only the liberal agenda should be protected by the laws.
The problem, of course, is that Bush is the president, and that undermining him puts both the war effort and the troops at risk – not to mention the potential long-term stability of Iraq. There is also the matter of respecting the office of the president and the electoral process that put Bush in that office. The press doesn’t care about any of that. Lokeman, Shelly, and the rest of their ilk only care that they’re tired of Bush and want him gone.
The other reason the press is giving Obama a pass on this is that they agree with what he was trying to do: undermine Bush and the war effort. They’ve been trying to do that for years. Trumpeting bad news while ignoring the good. Screaming headlines about roadside bombs and troop-death “milestones” while ignoring yet another province we get under control. They’ve been at it since before the 2004 election. Any reporter who was in that room with Obama probably would have asked Zebari much the same question.
Obama’s actions are beyond reprehensible in a time of war. They actually might be treasonous. It is a clear violation of the never enforced Logan Act. The McCain campaign should take Obama to task in the most severe manner possible. They will have to take it upon themselves to explain to the voters why Obama’s actions were wrong – and why, even if you don’t like President Bush, you should be horrified at the idea of a U.S. senator undermining his dealings with a foreign government in a time of war.
The mainstream media will continue to ignore this story. Only we the people can force them to cover it. . They think Obama is a hero for trying to undermine Bush. And they will continue to cover for him, unless and until they become afraid that protecting him will bring them down as well……faster and further than they have brought themselves down already.
Chazzy, you sound like a REPUBLIC
LOL, ain't it a shame? At last, Bush gets his comeuppance, at least in your mind? I'm rolling on the floor.
Hmm
Chazzy,
I've done a bit of research, and it doesn't seem like you've done much other than cut and paste what's currently going around on right-wing websites (and what was spread before by pro-Clinton sites).
Contrary to your ravings about "media bias," the reason that there are no mainstream stories about violations of the Logan Act is because there simply is no violation.
In 1975, Senators John Sparkman and George McGovern were accused of violating the Logan Act when they traveled to Cuba and met with officials there. In considering that case, the U.S. Department of State concluded:
The clear intent of this provision [Logan Act] is to prohibit unauthorized persons from intervening in disputes between the United States and foreign governments.
Obama was clearly not in Iraq to negotiate, but was there to listen to Iraqi leaders, and had been cleared to do so by the executive branch.
Sorry, Chazzy, but this ranting of yours is simply an overblown and pointless excursion by the right-wing anti-Obamaites out there.
Your time would be much better spent looking into Palin's qualifications to lead the country (and the corruption inquiry against her), since unlike Obama being charged under the Logan Act, there's actually a chance that she may end up a heartbeat away from the presidency with corruption charges filed against her.
Yet another example of the Star's right-wing bias
It is unbelieveable to me that the Star continues to ignore the shocking story of George Bush's betrayal of his oath, his honor, and his country. As a member of the United States Armed Forces, he left his unit without permission during wartime. None dare call it desertion-why? The mainstream media, "embedded" in this administration since the first day, refuse to investigate this clear violation of UCMJ. Only we the people can force them to cover it. They will continue to cover for him, unless and until they become afraid that protecting him will bring them down as well……faster and further than they have brought themselves down already.
A sickening betrayal of the public trust.

the difference
202
the difference...obviously ....is that occurred thirty five years ago ....One logically expects a little more decorum when one has expectations of ascending to the presidency.....further to my point is that stuff was fully vetted by the press in 2000, not ignored to further the liberal agenda.
If you fail to see that difference then I am sure you are a fan of the Star.
A much preferable procedure
"That stuff was fully vetted by the press in 2000" --in the estimation of whom? The right-wing loons passing around their latest shiny object on their red, white and purple websites, certainly. Not, however, in the estimation of the rest of us, particularly those of us who did wear the uniform of their country. Most of us probably would agree that showing up whenever it was convenient to one's duty station might well set off some twenty-year sergeant or thirty-year CPO to the point of actual physical violence. Unles, of course, one were a worthless coward in the first place, and one's father were a Congressman.

202 .....what I am not
I am not a republican....I am not a neocon ...I am a fiscally conservative, socially moderate, libertarian who has only once voted for the winning candidate in 11 presidential elections.
whether or not one supports any candidate, is or is not a supporter of Bush it is still appalling that the MSM chooses to completely ignore a validated story in which a candidate for the presidency undermines an elected president's negotitions with an ally in a time of war
Like you, I am a vet and as a vet you must acknowledge that his actions are unacceptable...bordering on criminal.....regardless of which candidate you support.
Vetting the sources
First, note that if one story is created by a member of the partisan press and is picked up by two hundred more members of the partisan press, it is not thus "validated." Consider the recent story about the "mini-army" of Obama's investigators air-dropped into Alaska to dig up dirt about Governor Palin. John Fund wrote the story in the Journal, based on one anonymous source. The right-wing Internet community picked up the story and repeated it endlessly. The McCain-Palin campaign inserted it into a campaign ad. The Democrats denied it. John Fund then denied (correctly) that he'd said "Obama," rather "Democratic," and said further clarification would be provided in a post on last Friday at noon. No clarification has been forthcoming. No retraction has been made by anyone. Yet on Wednesday last, the Mainstream Media were ignoring this important "validated" story. You'll forgive me if I withhold judgment on any violation of the Logan Act by Senator Obama.
Second, the "Mainstream Media" are owned exclusively by billionaires. Right-wing commentators have constructed an airy fantasy world in which these billionaires are some sort of overprivileged hippies who act directly in contravention of their own class' interests. You'll excuse me if I choose not to share their fantasies.
Third, history shows us that the Mainstream Media have had no problem whatsoever attacking left-wing candidates or, for that matter, sitting officials. How long did the press go along with the ludicrous Whitewater investigation--activity that supposedly had taken place TWO DECADES before? Do you feel that Clinton's impeachment proceedings were swept under the rug? Al Gore's "overuse" of electricity at his home? The burning question of whether and if so when Joe Biden has had hair plugs inserted?
And finally, the universal use of the term "undermine" in reference to Obama's trip demonstrates not only the endless use of Control-C, Control-V in these stories, but the lack of objectivity therein.

reporting versus spinning
Obama now edging out McCain, new poll shows. Still razor close, though
The presidential race is still razor close, but on the back of a very tough week of economic news, the latest Gallup Poll indicates voter opinion has flipped. The poll shows Barack Obama leading John McCain 47 percent-45 percent. It's Obama's first lead in the daily tracking poll since the Sarah Palin speech bounce came into play.
It's essentially the same margin the race has had for the past six days, though the lead had rested with McCain until these results. As has been the case for a while, the margin of error of the polls matches the gap, so it's safe to say the race looks extremely close.
Previous, in depth, polling has shown that more voters trust Obama on economic issues than trust McCain, and if those feelings hold, the opinion switch is hardly surprising.
The turnaround, however, marks the first time since reaction to the Palin speech gave McCain a bounce into the lead, a lead which had lasted 10 days. In this race, that's a pretty long stretch.
As always, it's a poll, national not state by state, and it's still 50 days out from the election. But the trend, and the news, favors Obama right now.
BRAVO O
At last we are off the Vice President garbage. I mean, do we care? Geraldine Ferraro was already there, remember? I am delighted to see that someone whom I admire, who is brilliant, has worked among the common folks, risen by his own strength and wits, held public office in the toughest state in the nation, is an accomplished, eloquent, educated, well-rounded world spokesperson for our nation is back in the spotlight. Mr. Obama, Welcome BACK! Your ideas, inspiration, and powerful presence are the essence of leadership. Move Forward America! Obama represents our future. I don't want to drink beer with him! I want his leadership. He IS Thomas Jefferson.
Yeah, maybe the events on Monday brought people...
back to reality and off the Palin pig with lipstick deal. McCain brought about or was a party to much of what is happening with our so-called economy but he will never be big enough to take ownership of what he has helped bring about.
We need to look further than just these candidates who are running for office and know the problems are so widespread and so ingrained into our society that there is a rough road ahead. I do, however, know more than likely that Obama will be getting my vote in Nov. because I cannot, absolutely cannot, see where McCain has brought about what I want my government to be and Palin is right there behind him with no experience nor the knowledge necessary to meet the challenges.
For a long, long time I have said this country needs a TRUE LEADER like Lincoln, Roosevelt, Washington or Kennedy to bring about the ACTUAL changes that are so necessary if our country, as we know it, is to survive.
