Sarah Palin served notice Friday morning that she will be one charming but tough cookie on the campaign trail as John McCain's running mate.
Plenty of Americans won't agree with Palin's strongly conservative views. But -- wow -- she just scored big-time with a high-energy speech in her first appeareance with McCain.
She hit all the right notes.
-- She said she's a change agent, which is a direct hit at the Barack Obama campaign for the Democrats.
-- She made the obvious point that she's a woman -- with a gracious nod to Hillary Clinton and other women who came before her -- ready to break the "glass ceiling" in Washington.
-- And she was quite good in making sure she paid the right amount of attention to McCain who, after all, is the far more important person on the GOP's ticket.
Sarah Palin was a great, upbeat choice for McCain, at least for campaign purposes.
What kind of vice president would she be? That's a story that will be carved out in days to come.

Sarah Palin nomination
I am shocked by this nomination. Gov. Palin's major political experience consists of serving as commissioner and mayor of a 9000 person town. As the newly elected governor of a small state, her first year in office was spent learning the ropes, and navigating the statehouse, leaving only a few months on her political resume as someone in charge at Alaska's helm.
There are many, many, many, small town elected officials in this country who have more political depth, breadth, knowledge and experience than she. I'm not sure that she is the right person to sit in the oval office if something were to happen to Sen. McCain, during his elected term. The thought of that happening makes me very nervous.
A home run?
I thought it looked more like a bunt foul with two strikes when she said "I never set out to be involved with public affairs."
Yawn.
Another Republican Marie Antoinette. Only this one's a woman.
