It's fascinating to watch Barack Obama change his opinions on the U.S. troop surge in Iraq. Sure, politicians flip-flop all the time. But wasn't Obama supposed to be different? Especially on such a core issue as the War in Iraq?
Here's a combo -- a Los Angeles Times report on deletions of Obama's previous anti-surge position on his Web site plus a YouTube video showing his flip-flops on the issue.
And there's more to come.
Now that he's secured the Democratic nomination, Obama will continue to move toward the center (and even the right) to attract more voters.
Again, nothing politically wrong with that. But it sure undercuts the notion that Obama is a candidate of change, someone who will tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.

Of course he will ........
He must move to the right of where he was. His preferred position is that of the most liberal man in Washington......it's how he got the support of the netroots .....it's how he beat Billary ....but he can't win the general from that position. If he does not move to the center he will get clobbered in November.
While we are all tired of Iraq, even Obama will never pull out now. Not unless the house of cards that is being erected there collapses....which it might....it is fragile at best.
The mainstream media guys like the Star and the networks will make absolutely certain that he be presented now as a centrist......ridiculous....he is a socialist, pure and simple.
Agreed
There's no contradiciton between opposing the surge and having a plan to withdraw from Iraq and focus our efforts on Afghanistan and Al Qaeda.
Huh?
Let's see Obama says we'll leave Iraq within 16 months if he's elected. And he's been opposed to the Iraq War from the beginning/
But
Nope sorry, there is no "but." He's been consistent about those points all along. So who cares if he doesn't support the surge or not? The Iraq War is wrong and it's time to leave.
You're off in the weeds on this one, Yael.
