By Ross Balano, Midwest Voices Columnist 2008
Photographs were released Wednesday showing Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius with Dr. George Tiller at what was called a “lavish secret party” for Tiller, his staff and other abortion doctors at the governor’s mansion.
The event was held on April 9, 2007 according to the Associated Press while Dr. Tiller was under investigation by the Attorney General’s office. As you know, Dr. Tiller is one of the few abortion doctors in the United States who will perform late term abortions.
The governor’s spokeswoman defended the event by saying that the reception that Tiller attended was a prize at a fundraiser for an organization that supports abortion rights. Apparently Tiller was the high bidder.
I wonder what he paid. I wonder what he got in return.
So are we to assume now that it is permissible to use the governor’s mansion for fundraising events? Will the next governor, and that can’t come soon enough, be able to host events for pro-life causes or maybe the NRA?
This is further proof that Sebelius is completely in the pocket of the abortion industry, let’s call them “big abortion.”
Sebelius has vetoed every bill that had even a hint of restriction on abortions including one that restricted partial birth abortions.
It has become obvious to me that Sebelius hopes that “big abortion” and the environmentalists will fuel her ambitions of national office.
This also is further justification for Bishop Naumann’s admonishment of Sebelius. She is not just an official upholding state law as her supporters would like us to believe. Rather, she is an active supporter and fund raiser. She socializes with the worst that “big abortion” has to offer in Tiller.

The Governor's house
Would the governor have been so receptive if someone like Fred Phelps had won the auction? I doubt it!
Balano's columns
are a joke. I mean, look at stuff like these quotes from above:
"I wonder what he paid. I wonder what he got in return."
and
"This is further proof that Sebelius is completely in the pocket of the abortion industry, let’s call them “big abortion.”"
There's no journalistic value or ethic in insinuating that Sebalius did anything other than host a dinner for the winner of the fundraiser.
This is irresponsible on behalf of both Balano and the Star, which allows him to post under its banner. He's treading periously close to a libel lawsuit from Sebelius -- and I'd think the Star would be more than a little leery of being named in such a suit as well.
Facts - Why the outrage?
The governor donated her time to a charity that was raffled off during a silent auction.
The high bidder, who owns and operates a legal business in Kansas, gets a meet and greet with the governor.
The governor also may have loftier political goals than her current position.
The governor also uses her position to raise funds for causes she supports.
Based on these facts, I'm expecting Ross' next post to outline his outrage at the President coming to Stilwell for Nick Jordan's fundraiser.
Balano
The only problem with abortions is that there have been too few of them. Need proof? Turn on Cspan sometime. Or just read this stuff from Balano. Some people just can't stand not being able to tell others what to do. Well pass all the laws you want. I manage a non-profit fund that pays for abortions for poor women as well as provide them transportation and physical protection from the wing nuts. And I'll keep doing it no matter what laws you pass. We already have a network of doctors arranged just in case the fanatics get their way. You will not stop me.
Dear Dumbth
That has to be the most inane post I have ever read.....seek help and get back on your meds.
Balano Bull
I see you're mouthing the Operation Rescue line, Ross: "Lavish, secret party."
More tempest in the teapot from the pro-birth let-them-die psychos.
George Bush shook my hand. That means he's a LIBERAL-with cooties! Where is the outrage?
Beauty is skin deep but dumbth is clear to the bone.
Sebelius and Tiller
I'm curious. Why did it take over a year for Operation Rescue and Kansans For Life to post the photos on the internet? Is it just a coincidence that they get posted at the same time that Phil Kline is taking a beating in the courts with his case against Planned Parenthood? Did they just happen to get posted the day before President Bush comes here for a 3rd District fundraiser so that issue would be on the front page to impress him? A fundraiser that even Senators Roberts and Brownback just happen to conveniently have "prior commintments" and will be unable to attend. I wonder if Kline will be at the fundraiser and if so who is paying his money for it and if he is going to be gladhanding getting ready for another run for DA. Just being curious.
