The world of highly paid CEOs in KC isn't at all diverse. In fact, it's all men when it comes to the region's top 50 publicly held companies.

Check out the illuminating chart in The Star 50 section in today's paper on page G-19.

The list of CEOs at the companies includes plenty of Davids, Roberts and other male names.

The total annual compensation for 2007 ranged from $6.94 million for Matthew Rubel of Collective Brands to $122,000 for Daniel Katzfey of First Bancshares.

In between those two men, there's not one woman leading a publicly held corporation that made The Star's list.

If you want to engage in the blame game, the most goes to the boards of directors of companies that don't promote women to top spots.

Lists like the one are valuable in showing that -- despite all the talk about diversity by America's corporations -- the leaders of the great majority continue to be men.
