David Cook is a talented guy, seems friendly and may even become the next American Idol. But let's be honest: His visit to the KC area last week was mostly hokum for TV.
The Fox network had its cameras rolling Friday as Cook sang at the Sprint Center, gave a brief performance at a Blue Springs South rally and threw out the first pitch at a Royals game.
From those hours of video shot last week, Fox will cull a few minutes and show them on the American Idol broadcasts Tuesday and Wednesday.
Prediction: Cook will come across as a lovable guy.
But what about KC? Will Fox trot out the stereotypes about what it means to be a Midwesterner? Will Fox even know the difference between KC and Blue Springs?
Believe me, Fox won't care. It just wanted a few minutes of youthful Kansas Citians screaming Cook's name to broadcast this week.
Cook delivered a couple of songs. We delivered the squeals of delight.
Mission accomplished for Fox TV.
