U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver has told Mayor Mark Funkhouser to use green solutions to fix KC's sewer mess. Thanks for the advice, congressman. Now, where's the money to do that?
Cleaver said in a May 8 letter he would "fight tooth-and-nail" for a project "that advances our shared vision for a healthier, sustainable and greener future."
But his letter doesn't mention one dime of federal funding for this $2.6 billion wastewater project.
That's a shame, especially because it's the federal government once again telling a local community what it needs to do to meet federal standards.
In this case, Cleaver can trumpet all he wants in favor of green strategies to improve KC's sewers.
I want more green initiatives, too. But they cost money, sometimes more than just putting a pipe or tunnel in.
It would be nice to see the next letter from Cleaver contain a certain dollar figure -- how about $500 million or so? -- that Cleaver would be willing to "fight tooth-and-nail" for to bring to KC for the sewer funding.

Jeez.
