In building a case that Barack Obama is surely an elitist snob, Michelle Malkin notes as Exhibit A his failure to chomp down a Philadelphia cheesesteak while campaigning in Pennsylvania. (See her column in today's Star or find it at www.townhall.com.)
People, cut these candidates some slack. As a former resident of the Keystone State, I can tell you that the culinary obligations are, well, weighty.
To avoid offending the locals, a candidate would have to consume cheesesteaks and hoagies in Philly, shoofly pie in Lancaster, dumplings in Berks County, Mrs. Smith's pie in Pottstown (my hometown) and bologna in Lebanon, then wash it all down with Iron City beer in Pittsburgh and/or Yuengling brew in the coal country around Pottsville.
My first newspaper job, in Reading, Pa., offered endless opportunities to feast on all-you-can eat spaghetti dinners, pretzels, scrapple (a Pennsylvania Dutch pork mush), and--you'd better believe it--Philadelphia cheesesteaks. I packed on a good 20 pounds without having to impress a single voter.
Obama wasn't being elitist when he declined the cheesesteak. He was probably trying to maintain one unclogged artery to carry on beyond Pennsylvania.

Obviously I don't think much of your posts, Inter.
I'll leave it at that - you really need to get an education.
