Why I support Gun Appreciation Day

America’s gun lovers are holding Gun Appreciation Day on Saturday. They say it’s an attempt to rally the troops to protect their rights to own killing machines.

As a gun hater, I originally questioned the wisdom of this made-for-publicity event. Now I embrace it. Here’s why.

Gun Appreciation Day will let its supporters spout more nonsense on TV. It’s guaranteed you’ll see some white male babbling on about how he thinks the government is coming to take his multiple weapons away.

Gun Appreciation Day will help focus even more attention on how destructive weapons can be, as opponents take advantage of the media coverage to point out these disturbing facts.

Gun Appreciation Day will give more gun lovers a chance to say they want President Barack Obama impeached for daring to take commonsense steps to reduce the carnage caused by guns. This is the kind of stupidity that passes for rational discussion among gun nuts these days.

Finally, Gun Appreciation Day will separate the sheep from the thinking people on the issue of gun control.

Take part in such a silly and stupid event, and we’ll know you aren’t serious about having a sane dialogue about how rampant guns are in this country and how destructive they are to our future.

Stay away - stay far, far away - from Gun Appreciation Day, and that could mean you are ready to help lead America out of the dark and toward a brighter future.

You know that little “be nice” shadow text that is in the comment box when it pops up? Does YTA have one of those on his ‘puter? I’d have to say not.

Ok, let’s start from the top.

Killing Machines” “nonsense” “white male” - Good to know YTA is not above making this into a race issue if he needs to. “common sense” - the watchword for people without the intellectual heft to defend their position except through insult and back-turning. “utter stupidity” “gun nuts” - a YTA favorite. At least we know now he is officially a self-declared “gun hater.” “sheep” - as opposed to all those think-for-themselves occupy Wall Street types and of course YTA himself. “Silly” “Stupid” “aren’t serious about a sane dialogue” - as opposed to the vast amounts of sanity in this piece. And of course, the way to prove that you want a “brighter future” for America, like YTA, is to stay away. “far, far away”.

And yet I’m sure he sees himself as the sensible one, the one who wants us to come together. Yeah, right.

You have officially entered “joke” status.

I see in the news that turnout was good. Crowds with placards and costumes, all very lively. I always feel safer knowing that there is an armed men festooned with a garland of teabags.

Also in the news five people were accidentally shot at a gun show, Says it all…..
