U.N. misused by world leaders
The United Nations is supposed to give the nations of the world a place to come together to tackle shared concerns under the umbrella of peace.
However, that purpose mutated this week at the U.N. General Assembly meeting into world leaders talking tough. President Barack Obama condemned anti-American protests in the Middle East that turned deadly. Obama also blasted Iran for continuing to pursue a nuclear program.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was dismissive of Israel’s threats to bomb Iran to take out the country’s nuclear facilities.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did more sabre rattling, warning that Iran must be stopped before it gets enough material to produce warhead fuel.
Perhaps world leaders need to have an open mic at the U.N. to show the world how serious they are about starting a new global conflict. Maybe then cool heads can get engaged to dial back the rhetoric and prevent another war from taking place.

Of course, the last nation to go to the UN to actually sanction an invasion was … drum roll … the USA! When they would not bite, we invaded Iraq anyway — totally illegally.
Oh, well, what’s 4500 dead Americans and 100,000 dead Iraqis among friends?
