Students right to be nervous about college, debt
The Kansas City Star
Young people who aren’t nervous about the stress of college and the debt they will take on to get a degree should be not be thinking about higher education.
High school seniors report that student loan debt is their No. 1 worry now about college, reports the College Hopes and Worries survey from the Princeton Review.
Worries over the level of debt has overtaken students’ concerns over getting into the college of their dreams, the Los Angeles Times reports. The average student loan debt now amounts to more than $25,000, and it’s more for advanced degrees.
That is sad but all too real in this age of tight money and loss of equity in homes, which many families had used to finance college for their children. America will have to come up with alternatives to get young people through college if the nation is to remain globally competitive.
