Streetcars in Kansas City? Highly unlikely
The Kansas City Star
Kansas City will get streetcars again when automobiles fly.
The cliche normally would be when pigs fly. But the public transportation of the past might as well be linked to individual transportation of the future in this town because neither seems very likely to happen any time soon.
The federal financing needed for streetcars seems like a far-off dream because of the intense competition with other towns. The likelihood that people downtown will be willing to take on a tax for a system to benefit the metro area also seems like a stretch.
The Royals and the Chiefs have a better chance of making the playoffs than a streetcar has of rolling downtown in the next few years.
