Steelman's disgusting statement on "kill Claire"

Yael T. Abouhalkah

Yael T. Abouhalkah

The Kansas City Star

Republican Sarah Steelman has issued a disgusting statement after a tea party supporter wished death on U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Democrat.

Scott Boston, of St. Louis, talked about McCaskill at a tea party gathering Steelman also attended last week: “She walks around like she’s some sort of Rainbow Brite Care Bear or something but really she’s an evil monster. We have to kill the Claire Bear.”

The Huffington Post got Steelman’s response to Boston’s comment:

“I may disagree with the words Mr. Boston chose in his statement, but I understand his frustration and I emphatically support his right to express his views.”

Seriously?

I MAY disagree” with Boston’s gruesome statement?

I emphatically support his right to express his views” - even ones that threaten ending the life of her potential opponent in the November elections?

Police are taking the threat seriously, as they should.

This shameful episode involving Steelman makes it apparent she lacks the integrity and credibility to be a superior representative for the people of Missouri.

Sure, Steelman is pandering to the far right fanatics in her bid to win the GOP senate primary. But Steelman went too far in this case.

Maybe Cleaver, “they spit on me”, will have something to say about this from his luxurious taxpayer provided car…

Don’t get in a tizzy here YT, air claire will find employment, as all politicians do, after she is retired on Nov. 6….

Yael, have you published a statement of disgust for Axelrod declaring Karl Rove & the Koch Brothers “Contract Killers”?

  3. 1 year ago

Oh please Yael, spare us your overwrought faux outrage! Where were you when Maxine Waters said “The Tea Party can go straight to hell”? Where were you when the lovely Ms. Waters called Speaker Boehner and Rep. Ryan “demons”? Where were you when Susan Sarandon called the current pontiff a “Nazi”? Were you outraged when Rep. Andre Carson said the Tea Party wanted to see “blacks hanging from a tree”? Were you disgusted when Rep. Frederica Wilson referred to the Tea Party as “America’s real enemy”? How about when Joe Biden called Tea Party Republicans in the Congress “terrorists”? Where was your disgust and outrage at the bounty put on the head of George Zimmerman by the New Black Panther Party?

What’s interesting but never said is that the Republican Party seems terrified of the Teas. They’ll go to any length to appease or to avoid to displease them. They’re a handful of loony malcontents. They more the party embraces the extremist the more they’ll be marginalized on the broader national front. We’re getting to the point where center-left progressives are closer to center-right conservatives that the Republican Party is to them.

Err..hey there AllahAkbar..they did NOT say “KIll ClAIRE”–perhaps sticking to the facts might be in order.

Did you write such a column when The book “How to Kill Bush” was PUBLISHED? I was going to enumerate the others, but the posters above were quicker on the draw.

The Liberal mantra of “Do as I say, not as I do” rings down through the generations.

According to the polls, TWO of the THREE GOP candidates are leading Air Claire, Steelman by 49 to 42

Did I hear any righteous indignation when Joe Shepard (Claires husband—if one can imagine such a thing) had his Nursing Homes cited for numerous violations–but his company is incorporated offshore so its hard to collect. “Do as I say, Not as I Do”

Or when Claire just kinda “forgot” to pay the $88,00 she hosed taxpayers out of by flying on her hubby’s plane.

Your hypocrisy is fetid Sir; whats that sound coming from Mt. Washington cemetary? That whirring sound? Gosh, its William Rockhill Nelson, spinning in his grave!

  6. 1 year ago

Chuck, as sure as the sun rising in the east you never disappoint… and make my point. Anything left of Genghis Khan is too far left for you and the Republican right. That’s why you’ll marginalize yourselves. When the whole country is laughing at Tea Party legislatures you’re on the brink.

Of course the threat was subtly condoned by Steelman; that’s their MO at the moment. What with the “2nd amendment remedies” and such. The right wing has become a dangerous cultural movement, and needs to be treated as such. It seeks to control every day life of citizens and business, yet still claims the mantle of “minimum government interference”, a bald faced lie they must be called out on. But they ignore that mantra when it comes to their issues.

Where was your disgust and outrage at the bounty put on the head of George Zimmerman by the New Black Panther Party?”

You mean all three of them?

Maybe most people don’t talk about it because it’s barely news. Except to people with a particular point to make. (And yes, I know there are more than 3, it’s an exaggeration to make a point.)

As always my I.Q. drops everytime I read a story by this guy.”

Well Brad we certainly don’t want your IQ to drop any more than it already has (that was merely a little joke, no slight intended)

You and the other conservative posters are perfectly right when you criticize this same rhetoric when it comes from the left. Let’s agree that it’s all petty, ignorant and childish and potentially dangerous. Let’s encourage a dialogue based on facts, good will, and mutual respect. One that does not utilize dishonesty of either commission or omission. Let’s face it. None of us really believe the BS we see in political ads or from the talking heads.

  10. 1 year ago

    Hey Brad… metaphor… it’s spelled metaphor…

And further ” If you believe this then your an idiot, if you dont believe it then your just a jerk.”

Regardless of what “this” you’re talking about, you’re either one or the other, by your logic. So which is it?

I would be less interested in pointing out your ignorance, except that you began your post by suggesting you had a larger IQ than a professional commentator, then followed it up by demonstrating your own lack of talent…

  11. 1 year ago

Jonathan…”What with the “2nd amendment remedies” and such. The right wing has become a dangerous cultural movement, and needs to be treated as such.” Really? Tell me about the violence associated with the right wing Tea Party. Let’s compare and contrast: Tea Party vs The Occupy Movement. Care to guess how many arrests occurred at Tea Party gatherings over the past few years? Zero. And now the Occupy Movements gatherings in a half year? Thousands. Rapes? 0 versus too many at occupy gatherings. Detahs? 0 versus 9. Cost to the public to clean up after the Tea Party versus Occupy gatherings? $0 versus $ millions.

Your next statement that the right wing “seeks to control every day life of citizens and business” needs to be identified for what it really is: talking points straight form the mouth of the Shirley Jackson Lees and Debbie Wasserman Schultzes of the world. That’s code for crack pots. From the right wings perspective, control is the last thing to be applied just before death.

Do some independent research. Don’t just inhale what CNN and MoveOn.org drop on the floor for you to lap up.

  12. 1 year ago

Why wasn’t someone threatening 2nd amendment remedies enough for you? Do you need a body cooling in the street first? How bout 70+. That fellow in Norway gunned down more than 70 innocent kids for being at a camp that opposed his conservative ideologies, as an easy example. And don’t try to suggest he wasn’t anything but an anti-immigrant, nationalistic, gun waiving conservative.

I don’t know Shirley or Debbie, but I suggest you man up and address the points instead of criticizing people associated with the points. Conservatives mandate people’s reproductive behaviors, restrict access to information (don’t say gay ring a bell?). If control is so bad, then stop doing it!

Do your own research, and do me the favor of believing I came to my own conclusions. Else, I’ll assume you’re just repeating the hot air from Hannity, Beck, and Rush.

And nary a word by the Star or Yael when a Dem makes a stupid statement. What’s especially surprising to me is that the comment was related to an issue near and dear to Yael/Star’s heart - local control of the PD. I suppose that as far as the Star and Yael in particular are concerned Dems are free to shoot their mouths off whenever and wherever they choose without impunity.

A state senator opposed to local control of the city’s police department has likened the battle to “slave politics,” equating those who support the change to “house slaves.”

It’s nothing different than what slave politics was,” Chappelle-Nadal told Bernie Hayes on WGNU (920-AM). “The whole impression of an individual who was a house slave versus the person who was in the field.”

What is all the hate about? I grew up in Nebraska and these responses aren’t the kind of people I remember from the plains country.

Do you all condone threatening your political opponents with death? Remember what happened to (how many people) in Arizona last year because some nut took too seriously the permission he thought he was given to kill a Senator??

Let’s please try to remember that we are on the side of our country and ask our politicians to be decent to each other and to us.

    Jonathan–are you nine?

Why don’t you get some juice and watch Sesame Street dear? Don’t bother that adults.

I was a liberal at your age; then I graduated HS and entered the world and learned how it worked. When you learn, get back with us

  18. 1 year ago

Jon; I don’t estimate your mind much more highly than you estimate mine. But since you’re so proud of yourself, why don’t you actually address some of the points I’ve made? Or do you need to get back to your minimum wage shift? (Hey, you gonna be nasty to me, I gonna be nasty back.)

And as long as you’re predicting facts you have no clue about, care to guess my weight? Predict whether I’ll meet a tall dark stranger, or come into money? Where’s your crystal ball at, Shirley McClain?

  19. 1 year ago

Whoop, MacLaine, not McClain. Excuse me, culture reference was slightly before my time.

  20. 1 year ago

Although Steelman’s choice of words is unfortunate, I highly doubt that she wants McCaskill “killed” in the literal sense.

  21. 1 year ago

Let me get this straight…some joker making a silly childish rhyme (Claire the care bear…really?) is the smoking gun (no pun intended) for a pattern of extreme right-wing violence, but the rapes, killings, stabbings, destruction, and filth of the Occupy Wall Street ‘movement’ are all just isolated incidents. Right.

Imagine if tea partiers were planting bricks of C-4 on a bridge outside Cleveland. THAT story would have some legs. But since it was Occupiers who were trying to blow women and children to bits the story gets swept down the memory hole.

That fellow in Norway gunned down more than 70 innocent kids for being at a camp that opposed his conservative ideologies, as an easy example. What does that have to do with the tea party in this country? Absolutely nothing. But if you want to go there… over 100 million people have been killed this century by leftists. Seems like your statement above is small in comparison.

  24. 1 year ago

Remember, Kevin, it was a gun loving, nationalistic, anti immigrant conservative who gunned down 70+ kids over in Europe recently. That’s a much larger deal than the party antics that the Occupy kids engage in.

The Cleveland folk were led by the hand by a fed handler. They were patsies, accused of a crime the feds themselves encouraged them to set up. Never trust government involvement.

  25. 1 year ago

JR; I’m talking about current movements, not ancient history (and that assumes your statement is accurate, which I don’t believe for a moment). The attitudes of the Norway gunman are 100% identical to the current conservative movement here in the US; anti immigrant, pro guns, nationalist, patriot. He is an example of what the movement has become, both here and elsewhere.

I know this is a mistake, but I will give a response to Mr. Busby.

The Communist regimes of the 20th century gave new meaning to mass murder. With Mao, Stalin, and Pol Pot leading the way, and with supporting roles from Cuba, Eastern Europe, and other leftist countries, at least 80 million people were murdered.

Starting with Mckinley in 1901, and continuing with Kennedy, Ford, and Reagan, any person taking a shot at a sitting President has been either a person of the left or an anarchist.

As far as gun loving, it is legal. Many people enjoy shooting, collecting, hunting, and other pastimes involving this hobby. No one is good or bad merely by owning a gun.

Being nationalistic used to be admired. Many have died for their country and many others, left and right, are equally proud of the US.

I think you are confusing anti immigration with illegally entering the country. Last time I looked, it was a crime to enter without the proper authority.

Finally, threatening anyone with intent to murder should not be tolerated. Let us all be as diligent as possible in holding people accountable for their words. I do remember when Bush was President, some liberals put on a play about assassinating him. At that time, it was called artistic license and was theoretical, not meant literally.

One area we do agree totally in is your statement, Never trust government involvement. Amen brother.

  28. 1 year ago

Johnathan, I’m curious, is there anything the occupy ‘kids’ could do that would concern you? Rape, murder, assault, shooting up with hard drugs, that’s all childs play? When they drop their pants in broad daylight and leave steaming piles on the sidewalk, well, kids will be kids I guess. Setting stuff on fire, and PLANTING BRICKS OF PLASTIC EXPLOSIVES? Those wacky kids!

No, no no…the real concern for society is how a bunch of old square retired white people in the midwest are are causing massacres…in Norway. Uh-huh. Just a thought, but maybe the reason that nut was able to manage such a high body count might have something to do with the fact that cops in Norway aren’t allowed to carry guns.

You seem like a bright kid, so maybe you could start paying attention to the fact that when liberals go nuts and kill people, which happens ALL THE TIME i.e. Amy Bishop, James Lee, Ted Kaczynski, their ideology is never mentioned in news reports. Yet we can’t hear a word about Anders-what’s-his name without hearing the obligatory right-wing extremist prefix. It’s almost as if the corrupt liars in the media are applying a double standard in order to push their agenda. But that’s a lesson for another day.

  29. 1 year ago

George; the difference is, Sharpton is pointing out an assault already in progress (accurately or no), the claim “kill Claire” is an active threat to do so.

    Steven; Point for point.

All your communism refs are historic; if history references are ok, more people were killed in the name of God than for any other reason, so let’s blame all religion. It’s the true problem, based on that logic.

    Anarchists aren’t liberals (I’d know).

Gun loving is legal, but dangerous as heck. It’s a killing tool. Our obsession with guns is unhealthy, it’s like loving death.

Patriotism is a virtue of the vicious, and always has been (even if it was admired).

The only reason illegals are still illegal is because you folk oppose them. So stop keeping them illegal, it that bothers your sensibilities so much. Till they, yeah, conservatives are anti-immigrant. They just throw the word “illegal” in there to soothe their collective conscience.

And yes, threats of murder are unacceptable.

Your post wasn’t a mistake; but I do hope you actually listen to this reply. But yeah, never trust the government.

  30. 1 year ago

” maybe the reason that nut was able to manage such a high body count might have something to do with the fact that cops in Norway aren’t allowed to carry guns.”

Why, no, it’s because the killer WAS allowed to have one. I already gave you the examples of who’s the bigger killer in history, as well as the gov’t setup of the “occupy bombers”. Just go back and re-read please.

Hey, chuck, you got any ideas of your own or are you just gonna echo chamber Steven?

BTW, this has passed the front page of the Star at this point. I think you guys are on your own till the next thread that people will actually read. Have a nice day.

Kevin and Steven, great point except for

You seem like a bright kid”. That part isn’t true.

I think that Communists killing 80 to 100 million in one 100 year period is probably going to surpass any amount killed “in the name of God”. Communists are atheists like Busby. Therefore he refuses to accept that.

Also, the reason illegals are illegal is because they are breaking the current law. If that law would change then they may not be illegal, but their status is pretty black and white given the language of the current law.
