Sidewalk driving? What was she thinking?

The punishment that Shena Hardin received was tame compared to what she did in Cleveland.

She drove on the sidewalk past a stopped school bus. Buses have stop signs out requiring motorists to wait while the vehicles pick up children.

It is a safety feature, which Hardin blew past. Children could have been injured or worse.

As punishment, Municipal Court Judge Pinkey Carr required Hardin on Tuesday and Wednesday to stand at the curb with a sign that read, “Only an idiot would drive on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus.”

The Associated Press reported that Hardin’s license was suspended for 30 days, and she had to pay $250 in court costs.

Yes, she got off with a light sentence. Jail time wouldn’t have been enough.

Come on, Lew! She probably had something important to do. Besides, she didn’t actually run over any of the little buggers. No haem, no foul, right?

I guess this is not as bad as simply locking her in a room with the parents of the children who take that bus — and a bucket of tar and some feather pillows.

My neighbors child is disabled and attends a special school. The bus driver parks in front of the house, open the special door for wheelchair access, place the bus in park and help the parent properly place her child in safety straps.

While this is taking place, the safety arm of the bus is extended and traffic is backing up. Could the bus driver and administrators make a judgement call where traffic does not back up and the childs safety is not at risk.

No, driving on the sidewalk is not the correct action, common sense should be used in all situations.
