Sanchez squanders KC's All-Star goodwill

Think about this: Thousands of Kansas City Royals fans paid good money to go see Jonathan Sanchez pitch Monday night at Kauffman Stadium. I almost joined them, but decided to do a little yard work instead.

Good call, it turns out.

Sanchez’s outing was brief: He lasted just 1.1 innings, giving up 7 earned runs, hiking his earned run average to a stratospheric 7.76. And the Royals lost 9-4 to Seattle.

Enough of the sports angle.

Let’s talk about disappointed supporters of Kansas City must be right now just a week after the city did a great job hosting all of the All-Star Game-related festivities.

The city looked fantastic for a few days, and fans swarmed to the different events at Kauffman and around town.

But at some point, the product on the field has to deserve the money that fans spend on going to the games.

That’s not yet the case for the Royals.

And Monday night’s minor-league performance by Sanchez is just one more reminder of how far the Royals seem to be from contending for any kind of playoff role.

Kay is right. All of things are to blame for Jonathan Sanchez’s poor start tonight. As she says, figure it out!

Royals have lost 3 of the 4 since the break.

    Brace yourselves.

I think you are being too hard on Sanchez. I really don’t think Mary had that much to do with the squandered goodwill. :)
