Ridiculous money floods politics

Already more than $2 billion has flowed into the contest for the White House. Expect the race to be the costliest ever.

That is an obscene amount of money for an elected office. Figure in the money flooding into other races nationally, state and local and you’re looking at what rivals the gross national product of a lot of countries.

What people have to ask is what will these contributors want in return for their “investment.” No one gives money to a politician out of the goodness of his or her heart.

The politicians also know from the thick carpet of money that is laid before them to whom they will have to genuflect once they are elected. Everyday voters will get totally ignored after Nov. 6.

The only altar going forward is that which cash buys.

The combination of concentrated wealth resulting from under-taxed high incomes and a Supreme Court that equates money with speech — and which considers a bodiless, soul-less corporation a Constitutional “Person” will be the death-knell of the Republic.
