Rick Perry isn't ready for prime time
So far in the GOP debates the Texas governor has been a major disappointment and last night’s performance was no exception. It began badly with the first question. He was asked about his economic plan and mentioned tort reform and the state’s solid record of job-creation and by the way, pretty soon we’ll see a “more extensive jobs plan” from his campaign.
Please. Jon Huntsman has zippo chance but he’s offered a provocative plan calling for drastically lower tax rates, zero deductions and no taxes on cap gains and dividends. This has little chance of getting through even a Republican Congress, but it would really spark an economic boom.
Perry has the right message: He says he wants to “put America back to work.” But it’s inexcusable that weeks after his entry into the race, he still can’t say in more detail how he would accomplish that goal.
