Remember, helping people is a good thing

Midwest Voices contributing columnist: Derek Martin

The Kansas City Star

“Using the collective energies of the nation to make life better for more people”. The Affordable Care Act is a perfect example of this maxim, and the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold its essential components provides tens of millions of additional people the chance to live healthy lives.

We are never exclusively just individual constituents, or state residents, or American citizens. Simultaneously we are all those things in an ever-changing balance, plus, above all, human beings. This is a day to be proud of how a lot of people will be profoundly helped and how we all benefit from that.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel or envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” - Winston Churchill

Perhaps the author would be right if The bill was actually affordable. The CBO projected cost has doubled. This is an economy buster.

Conservatives are accused of being anti-science, but we know math. It is something liberals should have been more interested in studying in college and bypassed the “how to effectively protest” classes.

…not really, they couldn’t figure out that starting two wars and cutting taxes would result in a minus. Paul Ryan has to use magic math to support his voo-doo economics. No I think you guys only know fantasy math where you decide on the answer before you add up the numbers.

Oh, you mean the 23 million that still won’t be covered by 2019 that the concocters of Obamacare admit is the case. That is nonsense though, there are only about 10 million chronically uninsured, but even they have options such as free clinics and other charitable possibilities, emergency rooms, and paying out of pocket. Obamacare would harm the health of millions. Get government largely out of health care and let the free market and free people work. Thank you. Mark Robertson Independence
