The pro-Claire McCaskill forces Wednesday morning are pushing a new series of ads attacking Todd Akin for his prehistoric views on rape.

All three of these ads feature victims of sexual assaults speaking out critically about Akin’s views.

And here’s an extended version of one ad featuring a Republican woman who did not take emergency contraception but wants that choice available to others.

The ads are being called “devastating” by McCaskill’s backers.

I agree. They are powerful because they feature the stories of three identified women.

But here’s a caveat: For the most part the ads are preaching to the choir. The women - and men! - who disagree with Akin will not change their minds because of the ads, obviously.

McCaskill and her supporters are hoping that the ad will convince some independent voters that they just can’t trust Akin to hold power as a U.S. senator.

These are not “identified” women. These are all women who are hiding behind a first name only and who are claiming to be something and to have a history which cannot be verified. Give us identifying information and we will check out their stories and their histories AND their party affiliations.
