Pujols, depression slam St. Louis
Albert Pujols reportedly is leaving the world champion St. Louis Cardinals behind and signing a $250 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels.
Depression just slammed into St. Louis, where the fans have showered the hard-hitting first baseman with love during his hugely successful career there.
But the worm just turned.
“Pujols turns his back on St. Louis,” reads the front page headline in the online St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Thursday morning.
A little angry, huh, Cardinals fans? Don’t be.
What? You thought Pujols wasn’t like all the other money-hungry athletes out there?
Pujols apparently is taking the money and running, not really caring to spend his whole life playing for the self-appointed smartest fans in baseball in St. Louis.
It’s also big news in California, making the lead spot in the Los Angeles Times online edition Thursday.
If it makes Cardinals fans feel any better, Pujols soon will be 32 years old and obviously won’t be worth $25 million a year in a decade from now. Heck, based on his lower production in 2011, he might not be worth that much in five years.

5 months, 1 week agoYael, you point out St. Louis’ sour grapes. Those are the same sour grapes you exhibited when Covington left for Detroit. You spoke of Detroit getting him just before the KCMOSD loses its provisional accreditation then you wanted Nicastro to stay away because of all the good that was accomplished and built up while Covington was here. Oh, the sourness of the grapes.
But I agree that Pujols isn’t worth the $250 Million. Certainly not in production on the field. The only way they can make that work is to greatly increase attendance, and all the attendant revenues, with higher ticket prices. Also, they have to be counting on higher media revenue. Good luck with that. I don’t blame Pujols as long as he speaks well of St. Louis. He should. But not many would turn down $250 Million

5 months, 1 week agoHe’s older than 32. He’s probably 35 at this point. His production will fall significantly in 3 years. He is not worth that type of money.
