Political Fracas: Another lie about KC's sales tax
The newest mailer on behalf of Kansas City’s proposed sales tax increase hit local mailboxes Wednesday. It continues the misleading promotion of Question 1, which I first pointed out earlier this week.
The new mailer contains an outright lie.
It says that “By voting yes on Question 1, you will eliminate the following taxes and fees:
“Annual per motor vehicle fee of $12.50.”
Wrong.
Voters in 1992 decided to impose the vehicle fee for 20 years. The city never asked voters to renew the fee.
So the fee was collected for the last time at the end of 2011 on annual personal property tax bills.
And that was it: The fee had ended.
So the vote on Aug. 7 will NOT eliminate the annual per motor vehicle fee of $12.50.
Supporters of the tax are coming in Thursday to talk to The Star’s editorial board. I’ll see what they have to say about this latest attempt to deceive KC voters.

Just think, if this keeps up “sly” and you are not going to be best buddies YT. KC continues to waste money and this type of outright lying is despicable. On the other hand, residents keep voting these type of people into office, so stupid is as stupid does….

10 months agoDear Yael: I am a write-in candidate in the Democratic primary for Attorney General for the State of Kansas. My goal is to charge all of the major national banks doing business in Kansas with consumer fraud. I would appreciate your sharing this knowledge with your many readers. I have been a Johnson County resident since 1974, live in Merriam, am well-educated and the author of many books. I honestly believe that these institutions are the primary reason for our lingering recession and want to force them to leave this state. If they cannot be punished, at the very least they should be required to go elsewhere. Richard W. Jennings, Merriam, richardwjennings@gmail.com Thank you for your kind consideration. - RWJ
