Sarah Palin has just endorsed Sarah Steelman Tuesday afternoon as the U.S. Senate nominee for the Republican primary on Aug. 7.

Is this the push that puts Steelman over the top?

Or the kiss of death from a failed GOP operative?

It’s not exactly a stunning development, but Steelman is sure celebrating today.

Still, I’ll file this under the “every bit helps” category, in that Palin’s endorsement will get Steelman some name ID and a bit of media coverage in next few days.

And here’s how a factual view of how Palin’s endorsements fared in the 2010 midterms.

The Palin endorsement also helps explain this story about the recent Steelman ad, which evoked Sarah Palin.

John Brunner and Todd Akin have been scrambling for Republican support in the primary as well.

Akin has his own failed presidential candidate backing him: Mike Huckabee, and he does carry a little weight with Missouri’s GOP.

Brunner has, well, lots of money to make his pitch.

The winner faces Democrat Claire McCaskill in November.

Steelman…really? McCaskill will chew her up and spit her out. Wake up, people, Sarah Steelman seems like a nice lady but she is a terrible public speaker. She always comes off looking ditzy and unprepared, and never actually says anything, just vague platitudes. Akin is our guy. He is quite serious, eminently prepared, gives a terrific stump speech, and has a solid background in both public service and private sector business. Let’s win this thing! Let’s nominate Akin!

It’ll be Akin. He has the Tea Party support. Brunner is decent business man but his unwillingness to run from the safety of the same old party line damn him to a once-ran. Steelman…love her passion. She can’t roll in the mud. Akin’s been there. He knows how the sausage is made and will not bow on issues of moral concern. Clair voted with BHO 90% of the time. She chose not to listen to her constituents. She needs to sit out for a while.

How does running a soap factory qualify someone for the US Senate? Oh, excuse me, hand sanitizer…Todd Akin sold mainframe computers for IBM then went on to manage a steel mill so he has the ‘good business experience’ you’re looking for as well as experience in government. And a degree in theology for good measure. He’s qualified.

Mr. Brunner seems like a good guy, and he’s said some good things, but he’s a rookie. Claire McCaskill is a seasoned pro, a wily veteran with a fat checkbook and lots of friends. Why would we choose to send a rookie or an amateur to face her? I’ll work hard to defeat McCaskill no matter who her opponent is, but Akin gives our side the best chance at victory in November.
