Oops: McCaskill will skip Democratic convention

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill won’t attend the 2012 Democratic National Convention, it’s being reported Tuesday afternoon.

Scared of being tied too closely to President Barack Obama much?

McCaskill was one of Obama’s biggest supporters in his 2008 battle for the Democratic nomination to be president. McCaskill got a lot of publicity for that, in fact, especially since she wasn’t supporting Hillary Clinton.

The Missouri Democrat even waxed on about Obama at the national convention in 2008.

But not this year.

Instead, she wants to spend her time talking to the people of Missouri. That’s understandable, especially in the tight battle she faces with Republicans as she tries to retain her seat.

An aide pointed out Tuesday that McCaskill didn’t go to the Democratic National Convention in 2004 when she was running for governor.

Fair enough. Although that was a state office she was pursuing, not a national office.

And, certainly, in 2004 McCaskill didn’t have the high profile that she has now as a sitting U.S. senator - and as an early backer of Obama.

Summed up, Republicans will spin this - with some accuracy - as yet another big-name Democrat who won’t be showing up for Obama’s re-election kickoff.

Sen McCaskill is a typical career politician that 90% of the electorate claim to dislike. The real shock continues to be that the majority of incumbents will be re-elected.

As far as how Republicans will “spin” this, it is 100% accurate that some big-name Democrats will not be showing up for the Obama re-election kickoff. No spin, just fact.

It is also accurate that they will not have to defend their decision to snub their party’s President as being a racial issue. A GOP candidate would never be granted that waiver.

air-Claire can skip all the conventions she wants… Her voting record of being in lock-step with the big 0 is history which the people of MO will not overlook.

She has had her 6 years of fun, gets her pension and can now return to private life making millions; all the while of course being for the “little people”… Progressssssssssives, screwing the poor.

Yael….the Republican spin will have “some accuracy”? Way to spin that, Yael. The whole point of why you wrote that blog is because she is running away from Obama, after chasing after him just four years ago. Re-read your blog. You said it very well.

I find it interesting that she wants to spend that time talking to people in Missouri. About what? About all of her votes that were contrary to her constituents? I am amused that she is positioning herself as independent…..independent of what? Her constituents? Let’s face it, she has far more in common with Harry Reid than those she wants to vote for her.

I can’t believe I agree with you Yael. Of course you candy-coat it as well as you can. Claire has always been a deft politician & realizes now that she has been on a ship of fools. Her only instinct is survival, but alas, it’s too late. Come November she’ll sleep with all the other liberal/socialist fishes that get voted out.
