Obama must be smiling as more people go to work
President Barack Obama has to have picked up a little more pep in his step today with the release of the unemployment numbers for January.
The unemployment rate dropped for the fifth straight month. Employers in a traditionally slow month added 243,000 new jobs — 100,000 more than expected, Labor Department data released today show.
The 8.3 percent unemployment rate was an improvement from 8.5 percent recorded in December. Obama hasn’t seen things looking this good since February 2009 shortly after he took office.
The downward jobless trend has to be a boost for Obama’s re-election plans. Republican presidential hopefuls, however, may have to find a new trick pony if the economy continues to improve.
Their “take our country back” cry could now mean take our country back to a recession and economic devastation. Isn’t that what George W. Bush’s Republican policies did when Bush for the 1 percenters occupied the White House?

3 months, 1 week agoMan, if we can get that participation rate down to 55%, which 0, with his anti-business rhetoric and regulations should be able to do, we can have ZERO unemployment. Think of it, zero unemployment with a zero president. How sweet is that…
Jobs decline from nearly 133 million to 130 1/2 million yet unemployment drops. Good work jimmy ii!

3 months, 1 week agoOh c’mon Kevin! Don’t try to infuse rational clarity into Lewis’ cheerleading for Obama!
The solid new jobs number is great for all. I read that 240K new jobs a month is the “maintenance rate” in the long pull. We all hope (some with a repectful doubt) that to be a genuine trend. The unemployment rate drop is an outgrowth of methodology change far more than an improvement in the raw number.
The Obama audacity train rolls on as the administration claims that the homeless rate has dropped by 15 percent in the last two years! Hey, Lewis! That is in direct conflict with your recent statements of concern for increrased homelessnes. One of the two of you is full of the proverbial…….my bet is on the guy at the top of the ticket.

3 months, 1 week agoAh shucks you guys, are you ever happy? We were losing 750,0000 jobs a month when Obama took over from you Republicans. He stopped the slide and reversed the trend to the positive.
People will start to wonder if Republicans care about them. Happy days are here again The skies above are clear again So let’s sing a song of cheer again Happy days are here again! Woo! Hoo!

3 months, 1 week agoAw ‘cmon my fellow Americans, be happy that more of us are finding work and our country is on the mend. It can’t be true that you’re disappointed by this good news? Why that would look like you’d wish America ill for political gain like what’s his name a few years back.
In reality however you look at it things are getting better! C’mon. let’s see a smile on those grumpy old faces!

Be patient Kev, it took eight years for the last Republican President to screw things up. There are 3 million more private sector jobs now than when Big O reversed the slide. He’s doing the best he can with only half a Congress.
We’re on the mend! Happy days! Don’t be a grumpus.

In the last 22 months, businesses have created more than three million jobs. Politifact.com We checked Obama’s claim by using data published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the federal agency responsible for compiling employment data. We found that the U.S. economy has seen 22 consecutive months of private-sector job growth, beginning in Feb. 2010. During that 22-month period, the number of jobs grew by almost 3.16 million, or about 143,000 per month.
Happy days are here agian!!!!

3 months, 1 week agoYou know what sounds deranged? That you can’t refer to the president except by name-calling like “the Incompetent One” and “the Big O.” That kind of thing just ensures that reasonable people don’t take you seriously.

….sure I do but things are getting better and I want to celebrate it. I know the conservatives want the economy to stay bad and unemployment high so they don’t get blamed for doing nothing to help but despite their best efforts things are improving. Happy Days !!!
