Now, more positively on the All-Star 5k race....

I wrote just a few minutes ago about the negative aspects of this morning’s All-Star 5k run.

More positively:

  • More than 5,400 people ran in the charity race, and about 2,000 more had signed up, making this a huge fundraiser for worthy cancer-related causes.

  • Second, along the course and at the end, the volunteers were tremendous. They had water at three stops along the 5k route. The fire hydrants were turned on at two spots. And the water, Gatorade, bananas, muffins and other goodies at the end hit the spot for the thousands of runners.

Still, about those snafus….

As on wag has already noted, “They’ll do better in 2052” - presumably the next time the race makes it to KC with the All-Star game.

The event was special because of the All-Star surroundings, celebrities, commemorative medal, t-shirt, and socks and of course, the great charities involved. However, the finish was a mess with the back log and then there wasnt much in the way of post-run goodies as compared to most local runs. Also, where are the results posted? My son and I have been looking for them all afternoon and the race ended over 12 hours ago. There is no link on the event site and havent found anything on google…

Agreed Chris, this was my first 5k and I’m anxious to see the results as well.

Are you kidding me? I run about 15 - 5ks locally a year and this by far was the best shwag, best prepped, and best post food i’ve ever seen.. Forget the fact that they gave you about 40 dollars worth of shirt/socks and a medal(which most 5ks dont do). I get the start was shaky with the speeches, but this was a charity event, so they have to give folks their due. The hydrants were great, finish was tight, but that is to be expected with the size. If you dont like a tight corral here is a clue, run faster.

Ultramax and MLB did a great job hosting and anybody complaining just needs to come to Rivalry Run in August, see what a normal 5 K is like, you will be wishing for hydrants and muffins… Let’s stick fo the positive KC
