South Korea is planning live-fire drills today, prompting North Korea to threaten “merciless” strikes in retaliation.
The tough talk is part of an ongoing dialogue over war in that tense part of the globe. What’s different is North Korea has a new supreme leader, Kim Jong Un.
His need to prove himself further destabilizes things. South Korea must proceed with caution in its one-day artillery drills from front-line islands in waters off the western coast, which North Korea claims as its domain.
