Missouri warming up to Obama?

Barb Shelly

On the cusp of next week’s interesting but essentially meaningless primary in Missouri comes an interesting but probably ephemeral poll that shows Barack Obama essentially tied with Mitt Romney in the Show-Me state.

Public Policy Polling has found the president has closed the gap with the GOP frontrunner. Both polled at 45 percent in the latest survey. Obama’s approval rating is still upside-down in Missouri, but less so than in previous surveys. The latest report has 45 percent of voters approving and 50 disapproving. That’s a spread of minus five, but Obama has been as low as minus 10.

PPP uses the latest results to speculate that Missouri might be back in play as a bellwether state. I have my doubts. I think a lot of Republicans express disapproval of Romney because they’re still comparing him unfavorably with Rick Santorum and Ron Paul and maybe even Newt Gingrich. But a Republican who likes Santorum isn’t likely to vote for Obama in November.

Still, you never know.

What puzzles me most about the PPP data is that Obama’s numbers have improved while U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill’s numbers have dropped. McCaskill’s opponents work strenuously to tie her to the president, so shouldn’t she too be gaining a little altitude? But then again, McCaskill has been under attack from Karl Rove’s super-PAC since summer. That has to be taking a toll.

aire claire is nothing but an obama clone. Her defeat this fall will be a welcome election result. Maybe she can go back to flying again! On her dime of course this time, not mine

Yes, I am sure that a majority of people in MO want obama to continue on his growth plan for America…

1.6 MILLION jobs lost since obama was sworn in….

Obama was running against a credible candidate in 2008, and that appears unlikely this time.

You may “never know,” Barb…..but most of us do.

Obama’s outlook for carrying Missouri is, deservedly, very bleak. Traditionally, incumbents can count on no more than 20% of undecided voters. If that holds true Obama gets swamped……as he deserves.

Hope and change has morphed into changes no one hoped for. None of his policy initiatives have popular public support…..also a bad precursor for our tone deaf president.

All the cheerleaders in the media cannot overcome Obama’s arrogance….on continual display in his divisve, expansive demagoguery. His absence of humility will do him in.

What has he done to make people change their minds in four years?Read more here: http://voices.kansascity.com/entries/missouri-warming-obama/#storylink=cpy

Let’see. Reversed the 750,000 jobs/month losses and oversaw the creation of millions of private sector jobs, killed Bin Laden and hundreds of his top lieutenants, got our troops out Iraq, reversed the recession, brought unemployment down to three years lows. Health insurance reform, financial sector reform…..the list goes on and what has the Republican Congress done?

This is probably more a case of Missouri being cool to Romney.

    Care for a wager?”

What is with you Republicans and for wagers? $10,000 Mitt? I guess it’s easy to play with money when you’ve got scads and scads of it and don’t have jobs so you don’t work for it anymore. As for the Republican house, they’re do nothing job killers.

Happy days are here again The skies above are clear again So let’s sing a song of cheer again Happy days are here again!

    You have a nice day

Kevin, If Mitt wins the nomination there won’t BE a Republican nominee!

Mark, you dodged his offer for the bet.

    So, you are declining?

What were you trying to say there?

I guess if we want more jobs and a clean environment….then we should re-double our efforts in Cleaver’s green zone? I call that a huge waste of money, Mark what do you call it? Stimulus? Jobs? Or, what?

  9. 3 months, 1 week ago

Mark, you continually mention your many variations of Romney making money without having a job.

What do you have against people who have earned enough to not have to hold a job within your definition of a job? I’m quite sure Romney worked harder than you did yesterday.

I’m serious, Mark. Why do you keep bringing that up, unless you think it is a bad thing? And if it is a bad thing, what is bad about that?

Oh, Kev you don’t really want me to go away. For you and the other conservative curmudgeons I’m the highlight of your day! How sad it that?

And Kent, it’s funny you should ask. Youy see it’s trash and recycling day in my neighborhood. As I was leave for my first job of the day I noticed the guys on the back of the trick in the soaking rain and realized that they are doing more to make the world a better place today than Romney and many others like him.

Once more mark you overstate your importance. If you were “the highlight of my day”, it would be a dreary day. I do enjoy the cupcakes you serve up, so keep up the big 0 cheerleading and we will just keep knocking them out of the park on you….

BTW, how many net jobs has jimmy ii lost since his coronation? Must be getting close to just a million and a half. What a “leader”.

Aw, KC you don’t mean that. Without me you’d have to be rude to the other conservative curmudgeons or go kick your dog. I’m performing a public service for your friends, family, and neighbors!

    You have a nice day!

And the net jobs figure is ?????? mark…

hint: it is less then ZERO’s name.

And the net jobs figure is ????”

Improving steadily KC thanks for asking! After all Rome wasn’t built in a day. It took eight years for the last Republican President to put us in the crapper. We have 3million more private sector jobs than when Big O stopped the speeding locomotive from running off the rails into the abyss. That’s good and getting better!

Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap (and dunk on) tall Republicans with a single bound! It’s SUPER O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Queue heroic music

The net job figure is incorrect, as usual.
