Middle East conflict heats up

The conflict in the Middle East flared Wednesday when Israel launched air strikes in the Gaza Strip.

The action was in response to militants firing rockets into southern Israel. A ground operation with Israeli troops could follow.

People have to wonder whether this fighting is a warm up to a long-threatened Israeli air strike in Iran to take out that country’s nuclear program. Iran has for years worked on becoming a nuclear nation.

Iranian officials have contended that it wants nuclear power for peaceful purposes. However, the facilities have been built in underground locations making them impossible to detect from the surface and even harder to take out.

Israeli and U.S. officials contend that Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons.

If an Israeli air strike in Iran were to occur, expect the United States and other countries to become involved especially if Iran retaliates militarily.
