McCaskill's new ad slams Akin on rape
U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill has increased her attacks on Todd Akin’s anti-woman, extremist views about rape victims.
In a new ad this weekend, McCaskill points out she’s a former prosecutor who realizes victims of rape need the “option of emergency contraception” - more than likely abortion, although that loaded word isn’t used.
But Akin has said repeatedly that the rights of the unborn child trump those of the woman bearing that child.
So if a woman is raped, Akin says, too bad: You’ll have to bring that unwanted baby into the world, even if it reminds you every day of your pregnancy of the horrific rape.
It’s such an ugly viewpoint - shared by a number of other Republicans, unfortunately - that McCaskill is absolutely safe to attack it and make points in her campaign against Akin.
The ad won’t be a game changer. McCaskill, however, is trying to counter Akin’s contention that he’s being punished in the world of public opinion for one little mistake back in his August TV interview, in which he talked about “legitimate rape.”
But Akin actually believes his extremist views on abortion and rape, McCaskill counters. And yes, that should be very alarming for Missouri voters on Nov. 6.

7 months, 2 weeks agoAkin IS the new GOP — not unlike the GOP before TR on economic issues, or the Spain of Torquemada on social ones.
OK, he is not as young and handsome and adept at hiding his true self as a Paul Ryan, but they both have the same positions and principles. They want smaller government — too small to guarantee food shelter & health care, too small to regulate Wall Street Kleptocrats — but just right to fit into your bedroom and doctor’s office!
