Mapping the human brain will be the new frontier in exploration in science.

The Obama administration could announce as early as next month the 10-year project to map and understand the brain. It would follow the Human Genome Project, which gave scientists invaluable information on ways to understand the human body and possibly come up with new cures.

The work will include foundations, federal agencies and teams of neuroscientists and nanoscientists, The New York Times reports. They will work together to increase the knowledge of neuron connections in the brain and which parts of the brain control different functions.

The would could immeasurably help people suffering from such diseases as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Expect billions of dollars to be invested.
