Israel’s Agriculture Minister has issued a state of “locust alert” to prepare the country for a swarm of locusts moving into the country from Egypt.

The Egyptian Agriculture Ministry in a statement said teams had been working to eradicate the locust and were mostly successful. The Jerusalem Post reports that the swarms are estimated to be 30 million to 120 million locusts.

The paper reports that the locusts have appeared in 15 out of Egypt’s 27 governorates. Because of the changing climate, wind patterns and dry crop beds locusts are showing up where they had never been seen before.

The locust threat just ahead of Passover sounds so very biblical.
